I know it isn't a velle but this is my daily driver. I have a '93 chevy 1/2 ton extended cab 4x4 350 tbi auto 700r-4. My engine light stays on so I checked the codes and it comes up code 43, I think, it is the code for the knock sensor and esc module. I replaced the knock sensor and that didn't fix it so I bought an esc module from the local chevy dealer ($100) and find out that '93 doesn't use that part and it is non returnable. My question is does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing my engine to signal a code like that? Possibly the computer itself, as I believe 93 the timing is controlled by the computer and not an esc module? Any help you guys can offer up would be very much appreciated, thanks guys, Jeff

Check the wire to the sensor,to make sure it isn't corroded or burnt anywhere.I ran into one with that problem a few years ago . Also double check you have the correct sensor, for your yearand engine, sometimes they get packaged wrong. As far as the module that doesn't apply to your truck, ask for a manager and tell him you couldn't install it.

Thanks guys for the replies.
Pdq67- I guess its a good thing, but we don't have any emissions testing where I live here, but thanks for the link, theirs some pretty good info over there.
Jay- Thanks alot, I think I will check the wire for continuity first, I didn't even think about possibly the wire having gone bad, especially how close they run to the exhaust manifolds. And by the way, I tried returning the part and talked to everyone I could find and they told me because its an electronic sensor I can't return it because I could have used it and wrecked it without them knowing it, and I told them I have no where I could have used it do to the fact my truck doesn't even have it but they are standing their ground. Oh well, its $100, if I get my truck fixed maybe I can sell it to somebody who does need it at a reduced cost. I guess for $100, I would probably waste more time trying to fight the dealership than its worth.
Thanks again guys, Jeff

I would raise some steam at that dealer. Since 93 doesnt have a knock sensor they should not have sold it to you. I would be ticked.

Some vehicles will actually alter the timing with a knock sensor problem in an effort to reduce the knock. Do you notice any differences in that area?

Leo- I hope this is the number your asking about:
1#216-46
The box also says:
1#16128251 Module Asm
The number right above is the number on the part itself, any other questions let me know

Chris- yeah I am ticked, but I get alot of parts from them and I would rather stay on good terms with them. I guess I would rather eat the $100 then burn bridges for the future. I am by no means loaded, but $100 isn't going to break the bank either. I'm sure if I really fought them I would get the money back, but I would bet the wheelin' and dealin' I do with them for parts now would end and then that would end up costing me more in the end anyways. Kind of have to pick your battles if you know what I'm saying.

I made a typo above. Actually meant the ESC module. Never seen a knock sensor sell for 100 bucks. :D

Anyhow. That sounds like you got a good thing going over there. Im sure you will save over 100 dollars in future purchases. I still think that if they are that cool with you they would let you return it.

Yeah, I know, I just don't want to push it to far.Like you said, I will save more than a $100 over the future, so I figure just let it be, and everyone stays happy.

The sqeaky wheel gets the lube. If you get a lot of parts from them, that is even more reason to get your $100.00 back. The fact that it isn't applicable to your truck is their fault. As far as good terms with them they should hold the door open for you when they see you coming.I would look for another dealer.
