Body Side Molding question

My car('72 Malibu) came with the Body Side Molding equipment, B84 would be the RPO code. The problem I have, the rubber strips that should be in the pieces fell off a long time ago, and I can't find replacement pieces anywhere. I'd love to keep these on the car, but if I can't find any replacement strips, then it's pointless to leave them on. Is there anywhere these could be bought? Thanks.

I haven't seen any in a LONG time...

Production numbers show the B84 was sold on about 1/3rd of the Chevelles they would have been available on but maybe that wasn't enough for someone to make them in the aftermarket.

I must admit I'm not familiar with the option but is it similar to aftermarket body protection molding that was popular back in the day like the white strip on an old 69 sport sedan I had?

I looked for a year and haven't found anything like the GM stuff. My car was supposed to have it too, but IMO, it's butt ugly... :D

Are those B84 side moldings actually held on with clips? Around that time GM began to glue the moldings on the side because it supposedly did away with a potential rusting spot. I think it was just cheaper.

My point is, body shops used to have generic side moldings by the roll that you would cut to length & stick on with self-adhesive. It would be finished with a cap at the end if you want. It was available in different styles and thicknesses. You might check at a local autobody supply house to see if they carry anything like it still. You never know, perhaps the vinyl strip insert can be found and put into your existing side moldings.

Some say they look a little silly, but I must say that door dings in a panel look a lot worse by comparison. Good luck

PS, if you end up with some stick on side moldings, uses a yardstick as a straightedge to line them up before sticking them.

At least on my car, they're attached with clips, maybe that changed further down the model year for '72.

I hadn't thought to look at any local stores, stupidly enough. I'll do that, thanks.

I was also wondering if that style of side molding was exclusive to the Chevelle or not, I was thinking that if I searched around for Monte Carlo or Cadillac stuff, I'd find what I need, or something close enough.

I tried to find replacement molding for my 72. I finally found NOS trim on eBay after months of searching .The GM part Numbers are:
8705699
6263176
8703328
I wanted to remove the trim but decided not to after discovering that they were attached with clips through the body. The car is still in its original paint.
