hi guys...

been a lurker around here for a long time...hoping one of the resident experts could chime in with an issue I have...
took the Velle out yesterday after cleaning out the cobwebs...noticed that under cruising it was fine..but if I got after it...( frequently ) :)...it would smoke a nice blue/grey smoke pretty bad...I don't think there is a live skeeter for 30 miles. The motor is a practically new 383 I purchased as a shortblock 3-4 years ago.. all forged internals, It MIGHT have 300 miles on it. It has a 280H magnum cam and Performer RPM heads.. Rebuilt Holley 4160 vac sec...heads I bought new too..research on here leans towards rings...I have a working PCV in it, and the seals "should" be new as the heads have the same mileage as the motor (<300 ).. I am hoping its something simple..but I suspect it might need rings...what do you all think? and if its rings, can a rehone and reassemble fix it?
thanks guys!

Possibly intake gasket pulling oil from valley.

Do you have baffles in your valve covers? Sometimes the PCV can suck oil right from the valve covers if the baffles aren't there. Does it have blow-by coming out of the breather on the other side of the PCV valve?

Dave

Did you retork intake after warmup. I changed intake gaskets a couple times before i relized that after the car warms up they need to be tightened down a second time. After i done that my smoke issue went away

I do have baffles, and yes I did retorque after it came up to temp...(bout 190) I did notice that the other valve cover baffle was leaking a little bit around the seal.. looks like a spray pattern of sorts...

then again.. i did just strip down my 94 454...looks great inside...hmmm....possible budget build??
