This weekend got around to installing new front upper and lower control arm bushings, new ball joints, BB new springs, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings, end links, on my 68 SS 396 Chevelle, which it needed desperately. But after re-installing the spindle on the left side, it is a drum brake spindle, and attached the nuts to the ball joints, I worked the spindle back and forth and noticed a popping sound at at the ends of the turning spindle. I believe it is the top ball joint making the noise. I have grease in the ball joint and the other side made no such noise. Could a new ball joint be bad? I notice the same sound on my 70 Chevelle as well, and everything is new on that as well. Anyone else ever had this problem? Solutions? I can replace the upper ball joint pretty easy, just want to know if that is my only option?
Thanks,
Willie

Well I put all the grease in the New ball joint, that it would take. The grease was oozing out and dripping on the floor. I am sure this will make that sound all the time, I just cannot understand why something new would make that noise. Must be made in China!

Willie,
Just my opinion, but if a new ball joint is making a noise, it needs to come out and be replaced .... ASAP. Make sure it fits the spindle taper properly also.
