what size rims should i look for for my 66? what is the right backspace also???? and how about tires i like the wide look in the rear
Well,
Tell us roughly what you are looking for... what style do you envision for your car?

Do you want 15", 17", 20"+ wheels?

"period" correct, vintage, classic, modern, drag racing, road-racing/pro-touring?

Do you want wide all around? or skinny in front, wide in rear? Maximum width you can reasonably/easily fit (bolt on)???

Would you like the same wheel/tire at all 4 corners (and maybe a spare the same size?

Tight budget? Or willign to spend whatever it takes to achieve your look?

Are you planning (or have) any modifications, such as adding disc brakes (GM or aftermarket), maybe swapping in a later (68-72) 12-bolt rearend (directly bolt in, but alter the BS requirements), etc...

Personally,
I have previously had 265/50-15 on 15X7 "Rally" rims on the front of my '66... fit pretty good, and nice and wide... I also had 295/50-15 on 15X8 on the rear... No body mods on either end, and lowered...

I then switched to 17X9.5 V40 (Torque Thrust style) with 275/40-17 on all four corners of the same '66 (picture in my signature below)

You need to know all this before you can decide on what BackSpacing you need...

well my neighbor has four rally rims for me i have to find out for sure but i am gonna guess they are 15x8. i like the rallys. I think i would like the 50's on the rear and maybe on the front or a little smaller like 60's on the front but i see everyone saying 295/50 do they fit all around on a 66? I would like to upgrade to at least front disk brakes in the future and maybe a 12 bolt rear but for now rear is a 10 bolt stock and drum brakes.

15 x 8 with 295/50 will fit but may be tight. Rolling the fender lip and making sure the body is centered on the frame will help. 4-3/4, 4-7/8 backspace seems to be right. on a 15x10, I have read about 5.5", double check to make sure. Looks like Ill be picking up some 15x9 with the 295s with 5 or 5" BS should fit fine. They look awesome back there.

I am getting 15x7 rally rims. what is the widest i can put on these rims? i am thinking 295 or 275 60's. should i put smaller in the fronts. i like that look. what do you guys think

most people would say 235/60/15 for a 15x7. I think you can probably got with a 225/60 front and a 245/60 rear if you like that look.
I used to run 265/50-15 tires on 15X7 rims... And it was okay, per the tire manufacturer...

What tires are those? From what I've seen for 15s, the wider the tire, usually is a 60 or 70 series. i.e 245/60 or 255/60 (which are ok on a 15x7)

the 50 series 15s are for the narrower tires, like 195, 205, 215, and 225 for the sport compacts.

I have a 66 and am looking to put 20 rear/18 or 19 front. I have double adjustable Viking coil overs all around and wildwood disc brakes all around. Factory 12 bolt. I'd like to go as wide as I can all around and still be able to auto cross on the street. I know handling would be better if I went 18's all around but I like the look of the big rim in the rear and slightly smaller up front. Any advice?????

I used 19s front and back. The rear is 9.5 with a 285/35/19 and I have around 1/2 inch on either side. The front is an 8.5 and I will eventually widen the rim since there is room for a 9.5 as well to hopefully run a 285 square setup.

Most do have 18s, but in the end you will be limited in the bigger sizes by tire choices if you want to be competitive.

Can I ask the info on your 18's? I am trying to buy a set for my boyfriend's car for his birthday & I don't want to end up with something I have to return.
His car is identical other than he has black interior and black top.
Just about any brand 18" wheel will fit his 66, with these numbers. Your BF's car is a 66,right?
18x8 front, 4.5" backspace, and either a 245/40/18 or 245/45/18 tire
18x9.5 rear, 5.5" backspace, and a 275/40/18 tire
