I'm sure alot of you folks here are members and I feel strongly about supporting this group. I don't race (yet) and get the $69 membership. For those of you who are thinking about joining check out their site...nhra.com

I've been a member for 36 years but that comes to an end next month. Enough is enough, for many reasons including raising the price another $5 "to maintain profitability", continued shoddy treatment and price gouging of Sportsman racers, and ridiculous executive salaries.

bingo on the above. and it seems to have gotten worse since the buyout!

Ditto..........."National Dragster" mag always annoyed me to read for some reason......the font?

I first joined when it was I think, about $28 a year, and they threw in a T-shirt too. Now, if you want one, you have to pay extra for it.

I just sent the NHRA a letter telling them how sick I am of how they've screwed up this sport I grew up around and once loved...I also attached a 20 page copy of a thread I posted on www.nastyz28.com where everyone gave their viewpoint on how to improve the sport.

With 1,000' racing combined with lousy TV coverage on ESPN2 that get's pre-empted by seemingly every possible event including tiddily-winks championships and every other possible programming, they've completely lost me as a fan.
The shows are stale, the announcers (especially Paul Page) are horrible, the theme music is the same that it's been for over 5 years +...they don't even capitolize on night-time qualifying or racing...which is the greatest drawing card they have.Their PR department all should be fired,it's a crying shame how they have ruined this sport.

I would usually attend all 3 events in CA and watch religiously, now I attend none and have only seen about 20 minutes of racing action this year because I never know when it's on.

With Budweiser leaving as a major sponsor, just watch how many more jump ship to SAMECAR next season.

In my estimation,NHRA is now a 3rd-class sport...

I ran a car in NHRA Stock 30 years ago and Sportsman racers were treated as 2nd class citizens even then. Now nothing exists in the NHRA hierarchy minds except the Pro classes. The only reason they "tolerate" Sportsman classes at national events nowadays is because they're a cash cow.

I agree!!

I did not re-up my NHRA membership this year. It was up in Feb. My competition license is up in Jan 2010 and I don't think I'm going to renew it.

 It is still the same :( They priced me out of Super Gas racing with all there new rules and the price increase of the entry fee's. I'm also tired of giving my money away to re-cert my S.F.I. stuff.

In a few weeks after I put new brakes and slicks on it (the old ones are in bad shape) I'm going to get serious about selling my Super Gas car.

I'd consider joining if there was an NHRA track within 100 miles of me (and I live within 5 and 35 miles of the two largest population centers in my state). I know it's not entirely the NHRA's fault there is no track in my area, but honestly, what's the real business incentive for someone to build one if interest in the sport is waning? The waning of the sport though, I lie almost entirely at the feet of the NHRA.

I could put $70 to a much better use.

I decided to watch the NHRA qualifying scheduled for 7:00PM CST. Tuned in and there was hockey instead.

NHRA website had this:

ESPN2 program alert: Houston qualifying show
Saturday, March 28, 2009

ESPN2's coverage of qualifying from the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in Houston may start late and be shortened due to the network's live coverage of NCAA hockey.

Because the show was only was slated for one hour, from 8-9 p.m. Eastern and ESPN2 is committed to a live soccer broadcast beginning at 9 p.m., if the show airs tonight it may be a truncated version, but ESPN2 will air the full one-hour show Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.

What a bunch of HOCKEY!!!

They're getting flamed everywhere...

I didn't realize the NHRA had such a bad reputation.
Go to www.nastyz28.com and check out my thread in the BS Section, seems the NHRA is seriously out of favor at the moment.
