I have heard it mentioned here a few times that drum spindles could be modified to accept caliper bracket for disc brake conversion,by cutting off some material at upper caliper mounting bracket bolt hole.Has anyone actually done it or know of any pictures of doing this.1970 chevelle.Thanks:beers:

i did a set by using the caliper brackets to mark where to cut the boss down and hitting it with a cutoff wheel to a little bit above the final height, and using a grinder with a flapper sanding wheel to finish it off.
it was about a 5 minute operation from the time i marked the cut until i tightened the bolt down with the caliper bracket bolted to it.

This seems like the best kept secret.I will definately try.Any other input is greatly appreciate it and I did see the sticky about it.I guess I am mainly cocerned about cutting it nice and square.I will keep you posted and I will take a couple pictures as I go.Do disc brake hoses attach to the same little bracket as drum or do I need different ones?Thanks:thumbsup:

turning a drum spindle in to a disc spindle is the "best kept secret"? it's the first thing i read back in '99 when i was looking at cheap brake options for my newly acquired 71 nova with drum brakes..
Camaro hose is about an inch longer. NAPAONLINE.com has the hose length for their brake hoses.Is the length different or just the fitting end?Thanks again

also 70 nova hoses work they are nice and long! just used a pair on my 70 chevelle....

One great thing about this option is that you can do it with the spindle on the car, so there's no need to pull everything apart, or have to do an alignment after. (assuming the bushings, balljoints, and alignment specs are all "good" enough for continued use)

has anyone given this "mod" a name yet? it needs a clever name so that the kidz can brag about doing the "whatever mod" on their car.
i vote for the "spindle mod", since that's what it is.
of course- there are two different stages- the "full spindle mod" would be for stock brackets since you cut off the most, and the "half spindle mod" or "Vette spindle mod" would be for Vette brakes since you take off about half as much as the "full mod".

I am working on the same conversion, I am having an issue with the rotor rubbing the lower a-arm. Currently my car is sitting with no motor on bb springs so this may be the issue, however, everything else has gone as plan, etc I can't get the inside pad on, i assume due to the disc not being fully lined up with the spindle due to the rubbing on the lower a-arm.
