Don't get me wrong Mike, the saftey issue is very important and the rules are in place for a reason and keep people as safe as possable. I have not personaly seen or herd of a fatality in local drag racing but have seen a couple bad wrecks where the cage did it's job. There are risks in anything we do and there is nothing wrong with showing up to bs and not racing, no one here will judge. I have not been down the track since 1994. I don't drive hydroplanes anymore somewhat because of the saftey thing and having a family to support, but I love working on them still and being a part of it.

John, I don't think there's a way to do that.....at least us men as a collective haven't figured out how to do that, we focus on simpler tasks like going to the moon and getting back safely:D

We can yell at other men at work, or wherever but can't do it at home...what's wrong with us?;)

I'm not married(never have been), I don't think I'm qualified to help:noway: You're gonna need an older woman who has been married forever to a military man to talk to your wife:yes: Hmmmm, is Mark's wife available for conference calls? I think a few other guys might be in this same boat..

No problem Mike, I think we all got a little wound up because of my comments....it's all my fault(again). Yes, we could wreck on the freeway getting there before the race, I agree risks are taken every day and I'm sure they do the best they can to prevent wrecks.

I've never been down the track...but then again, I've never been in an accident and for a reason, I don't drive like an idiot and have avoided many crashes because of idiots. I have had lots of risks in my life, flying in the past and being an electrician for years are both big risks...just think if I had a street bike and a race car.

Oh hell no, once you get them running in packs, its all over:D I've never been able to figure out how a woman's mind works I just know I'll never win:sad:

Then the chicks would really think you're cool.
I don't know about that, they'd probably think I have a death wish.....at least that's what the ones I know said when I mentioned thinking about getting a street bike a few years back, while going to flight school and working on my car all at the same time....

I've since resigned the street bike idea, sticking to something with 4 wheels and doors.

My point exactly. They love that stuff. Safety based risk association. :beers:

Even in his later years, Evil Kneivel had a whole posse of sweet young thangs hanging off of him. This too could be the life for you !!! ;)

OK, now I'm getting some info on it....... I agree guys with fatter wallets will be faster the majority of the time. I didn't say the bracket racers didn't have skill, Brian said the heads up racers didn't have skill. Tracks are around because people like to race, not because of bracket racing....not all the fast guys show up all the time.
Thats exactly what I said, thanks for summing it up into a nutshell.

Also have u been to a heads up race, who do you think breaks more often a bracket racer or a heads up racer?

Since this has calmed down somewhat I will leave it at this, I have hit many a 90mph fastballs out of the park in my day.:D

Screw all the racing and stuff,,,,, the only reason I go to the track is to drink Rip A$$ and pass out by the dumpster.:beers:
We know... ;)

You hit 11's though, good reason for celebration! :hurray:

I figured you probably wouldn't like the comment but I didn't say what Mike thought I said either......

I don't know who breaks more, but does it matter....? I think it depends on the guy who built the car and what parts he used regardless of whether it's a bracket racer or heads up racer.

As far as fastballs.....my senior year I struck out a 4 year full ride scholarship kid from Gig Harbor 3 times in one game, Brian Gardner....he was pissed to say the least. I'm also lefthanded, and had a wicked curveball nobody could hit, nobody. I also broke the school record for stikeouts (14) in a 7 inning game. Enough about that, back to cars.....:D

That is pretty impressive, I am also left handed. Played select all the way up to my senior year summer. My last season had a 480 batting average. Got two full ride offers to community colleges but turned em down as I was burnt out on the sport and had more fun tinkering on the chevelle.:beers:

My comment about the heads up breaking more, I was just refering to as they do break alot more often because like we all know whoever goes the fastest wins. So they will stuff a bigger pill, turn up the lbs, whatever it takes to win that race. This can lead to alot stuff breaking more often than a bracket racer who it doesnt matter how fast their car goes but moreso on their R/T plus the difference in their ET.

Its weird when you bracket race, the drive to get that best ET goes out the window, atleast for me because its more about going another round. Last season I was on the pass of a lifetime probably a 10.32pass most likely but I had a 10.60 guess on the window and caught the guy at half track. I would of broke out but decided to dump to try to just beat him across the line since breaking out is basically cheating. And I ended up dumping too much and he beat me to the stripe by .002 seconds.

So I bought into the cash grab just to try and run it all out no matter what, and thats the video in my signature.

the reason why i came in second at monroe was i broke out. i wasnt mad i was pumped cause it just means my car is faster. if i break out that just means im drivin it better and i have a new dial in. hopefully this year it will be 11.xx and not 13.9 :D

Too bad we didn't play each other.....but we're too many years apart. That's a great average and something to be proud of, where did you go to school, South Kitsap?

I grew up playing ball, Dad got a scholarship to Green River.....it's pretty much what I did for about 10 years. Hitting for me came later and by that time people wanted me to pitch more than hit....but I really wanted to hit more than pitch, so I wouldn't pitch if I didn't get to hit.

I went to White River(in Buckley), which has never been a large or highly touted(or even noticed) school so we never got scouts out there. I did however encounter something strange.....by my sophomore year, the whole Mt. Tahoma baseball team knew my name, people would come up to me I didn't even know and start talking to me....really weird.

Since graduating, I've played softball and become a mercinary of sorts....a lefthanded bat with an average of 1HR a game, around a .750 average and a cannon at third base. It's not as competitive anymore and working nights the last few years put a damper on my sports time but I still enjoy it, surprising people that don't know better....they better run faster if they want to make it to first base:yes:

I understand what you mean about consistency, and guys taking care of their ride more with bracket racing. Doing something over and over to get the same result takes practice and good preparation vs. the guy who just wants to go faster. Just like sports, the guy who takes care of his body lasts longer and has better consistent results with less injuries.

Both are fun to me, but one I will be able to do longer with age. Honestly I think taking so long to do my car up has saved me from at least one accident and now being older I'm a bit more safety conscious and less impulsive.

I think we're both very competitive, and are alike in many ways....we just go about it differently, that's the reason for the arguments. I don't like to lose just like anybody else but as you will see, I will admit when I'm wrong like I mentioned. Prove it to me and I'll give you the credit, I'm not too proud to do that. You have learned a lot in your short time in the sport about performance and I have learned a lot over the years about what I wanted to do with my car and how to go about it.

2 different points of view= a disagreement, so no hard feelings....I should just keep my mouth shut more often:thumbsup:

Sounds like a "Glory Days" thread now....
