This is according to Chevy Super Sports 1961-1976, Boyce

As always, depends on condition. The first HC sold a couple years ago, fully restored, for I think 30k. It was in Hemmings acution section.

We had a '72 Heavy Chevy that was turned into an SS396. The only give away was the rocker mouldings and the two trim strips in the grille. The '68 MQ code L78 engine made the car a pretty fun driver. The car would have been much more unique had it been done up as the Heavy Chevy that it was and we would have enjoyed just as much. A friend bought a 402 4 speed Heavy Chevy new back in 1972. His brother restored the car back to original and takes it to cruise nights and car shows. I think that I have only seen one or two others over the years.

Nate, in order to put a value on one, we need more specifics and pics.
How original is it, what condition is it in, what options etc.

Well, Im not a big fan of all original, and I never plan on selling my car. I was just curious how rare it actually is. But, my car is in the middle of restoration. I am a student, so money is slow and the build takes longer. I have all new sheet metal on it, all the external bodywork is done except for the roof. I am building a procharged 496 for it right now, and I am building a cage soon. So its not original at all, but its the way I want it. Originally, it had a 350 and a m-20. I know where the original block from the car is. Its in the original owners "hunting blazer" that hasnt moved in about ten years. He lives in my home town. I think I can get my hands on it. But I will never sell my car or sign it over in marrage! So I dont really see the point in getting the original engine.

If you can get the original motor then you should. Your perspective about "original" may change as the years go by. Ten years from now you might hate yourself for not taking the opportunity to acquire those things that made this car unique...IMHO.....

What he said...you will want it someday, especially after you knew where it was.

Take everyones advise try to get the engine. Most Heavy Chevys were stripo's with 307 or 350 2bbls and more so the majority were automatics. I looked for years for the one I have now. Its an 1972 68 Orange J code stick , 12 bolt #'s car and they are tough to find !!!! poll the viewers You never see a Stick one !!!!! Get the engine buy the truck swap the engine or whatever its money in the bank someday !!!!
