The 69 ZL-1 would probably be my 1st choice, but the Mopars of the late 60's were nasty. The last car my dad had before he dies was a 70 hemi cuda. It was a monster. He never raced it just wanted a hot car. I was too young to have it so my older brother "the nerd" sold it in 72 for $1500. and an old riding lawn mower. Many times I've considered mowing his toes off as a thank you.

That's easy. The 1967 Ford Fairlane 427 DOHC. It was pure evil. The 67 L-88 Corvette is a super close second. Zero to 60 in four seconds flat in 1st gear is quite a ride.
My uncle had a 67 Galaxy with the same motor. It was a 4 speed car. That had to be the most powwerful factory muscle car I've ever seen.

An A12 Super Bee. For those that don't know that code off hand it would be a 69 model Dodge Super Bee fitted with a 440 + 6, hemi 4 speed trans, and a Dana 60 rear axle fitted with a sure grip differential and 4.10 gears as well as a fiberglass lift off hood, black steel wheels. A no frills factory race car.
a12 roadrunners/superbees
 IMO They didn't have the good looks of the Chevrolet's of the day, but for anyone who has ever run one of these cars at the track, they were/are fast!

This is an easy one...

MINE...

Honestly...

All these cars are baddass but the GTO judge is prolly the most sought after? NO?

Arent they the highest priced Muscle car?

I know the price doesnt make it baddass but definitly awesome...

oh forget it I cant pick.

I might trade my 69 for a 70 purple hemi cuda though

the BB 6 pack mopars were pretty dam fast-i was racing during the muscle car time, pretty much ran factory stock, so i took on a bunch of them
i had a 67 396/375 4 sp camero, couldnt touch the mopars
i had a 64 corvette, 4 sp, 327/375 fuel inj, i put a super tune on it, pretty much beat every stock car i came against-tires were pretty much the limiting factor back then
now when i had my 69 396/375 nova, i learned how to cheat, so i was kicking some serious but, lol

Vettes are/were not muscle cars. They are/were in a class with the Cobra, and the XKEs, and such. Technically neither are the 'stang or the F-body for that matter.

All these lame mopar drag cars...please. A muscle car is all iron and metal, and none of the body lifts off.

When I think muscle cars, I think early to mid 60s 2-doors, like the deuce/chevelle/impala, falcon/fairlane/galaxie, etc. pretty much any of those in a strip down model with a 4-speed and a big-block.

1969 Road Runner 12.91@111.8 440 Six BBL 390 4-Speed 4.10 SS 6/69
1970 Hemi Cuda 13.10@107.12 426 Hemi 425 4-Speed 3.54 CC 11/69
1970 Chevelle SS454 13.12@107.01 454 LS6 450 4-Speed 3.55 CC 11/69

the three baddest muscle cars, although the Hemi Cuda is probably not a muscle car as much as a pony car. The hemi came in 2 versions , the street hemi and the race hemi which you saw in all the drag cars of the day. The street hemi was an overrated motor. The 440-6 pack blew it out of the water.

come on folks....got to be the 450hp '70 LS6 chevelle !!! we are talking factory right ?

the '70 455 buick GS III I believe had the highest torque rating of any factory motor though...500 ft/lb
It was actually 510 ft/lbs! I'd have to say the A12 Mopars as well or the '70 Buick GS Stage 1, with the L88 ' Vette as a 'ringer'.

Back in the 70s, I would win and lose running against MOPARS with my LS-5. They were eating a lot of Chevys and Fords. For the average street racer, The 4 speed mopars were not as quick as the same MOPAR with the 727 Auto.
I still remember the MOPARS in the 60s and 70s leaving the line. The flag would drop, and the AZZ end would go up 2 to 4" and they were gone. They were the hole shot kings. In the late 50s the " Origional RAMCHARGERS " from Mich. Had there first car at Salem Ohio. It was a 48-49 Plymouth Cp. With the long intake runners, The carbs looked like they were about 2 feet from the Cyl. heads.
The HEMI was mounted very high in the frame rails, Weight transfer? This was a very UGLY old Plymouth and a Very,Very fast old Plymouth. This was the first race car from the " ORIGIONAL RAMCHARGERS " from Mich. Remember the White Mopars with the Red vertical stripes and Ramchargers on the doors.
NOTE:
The org. Ramchargers were a bunch of engineers that worked at Chrysler. They were permitted to use the R & D Dept. at Chrysler to play around with race cars. ( In the evenings, NOT on Co. time) Now you have an idea WHO invented the intake manifolds for the 426. Some of the above details & dates may be wrong. Its not E-Z remembering STUFF from 59 years ago !

Torque makes these intermediate muscle cars move, so there for,

1. Buick GSX stage 1-1970
2.Chevelle SS454-1970
3. Oldsmobile 442 1970- with a 455! (This one was very fast way back in 1978 when I rode in one!)

Pick your poison, they are all cool!

the factory LIMITED racers win hands down ........ & every factory PLAYED !!

limited production 62 impala's with aluminum front ends & 427 !!
ford countered with the high rise 427 in the Thunder bolts !!
not to be out done ...... Dodge farmed it out to Hurst to shoe horn HEMI"S into darts & cuda's !!

Pick your Poison Boys !! every dog had its day !!

To many rules by some in here. If it was built (or commissioned) by the Big 3 and you could order it from the dealer then it WAS American factory iron!!!

Yep 1st on my list is the Hemi Dart/Baracuda. The rest of them before AND after are just chasing fumes!!!

Secondly I can't decide between the factory lightweights like the Galaxies, Thunderbolts or the MaxWedge and Hemis from Chrysler and I can't forget the earliest 409 lightweights from the General. :beers:
WOW whatta time that musta been, damn hippies and the green weenie wackos sure ruined this country ever since.
