I just got my CNC super victor and it doesn't fit at all. The intake is machined all crooked. I layed it on the block with the gaskets and the front and rear rails have a difference of about .055" side to side. It's not the block, because I put it on the bench and set the carb pad level, side to side and the level has to be lowered 1/16" to read level across the end rails. At first I thought I could fix this but I'm concerned that if the end rails are crooked, how do I know that the sides where the ports are are machined at the correct angle also. I mean the ports line up fairly well, but I can't see the bottom of the intake to say whether or not this thing will be sucking oil out of the valley. I've been up all night sick thinking I spent $600 on something so bad. I called Summit when I saw the problem and they want me to call Edelbrock. I have this sick feeling that they're going to tell me that they have never had that happen before and that it's my problem. Summit says they only have 1 other intake, and they can't guarantee it would be any different if it came from the same production run.

I have seen one of them with 1 corner pulled up or twisted. These were not the Super Vic CNC , but a Vic JR. Also had trouble with the bolt paterns being off. I would send it back.

The heads are already on the block. But I checked both front and rear rails and they are both closer to the block on the driver side. The front was actually touching at the corner of the block and head. That's why I'm concerned. If they used the carb pad as square and then machined everything off that, then the side flanges are probably crooked too.

I thought for the money, it would fit fine. It showed up last night. It's just that now, I don't know what to do for an intake. Do I risk another one from Summit?

Edelbrock has a decent reputation. I work for a manufacturing company and no matter how much money and time you spend on production and QC, you will never have a 100% perfect product 100% of the time. If you question it, just exchange it.

Oh boy, I bought my super vic about 1 year ago(not the cnc one) but I did clean up all the flash casting, so return will be out of the question. I just got done collecting all the parts for my 400 sbc.
Hope mine is ok!
My rpm fit so good it looked like I didn't even need to use gaskets Lol.
I would return it I am sure Edelbrock will stand behind it.

I called Summit again because I couldn't wait for Edelbrock to open. I got Duane on the phone and he is going to have the other one pulled and checked. If it is square he will send it out today. If it is crooked he will call Edelbrock and get me another. He also said even with the work I did to this one he will send UPS to pick it up as defective.

That sounds like good customer service on Summit's part, hopefully the other one is OK.

Unless it is a "class" problem what are the odds that the next one from Summit will be bad? If there are lots of these manifolds out there with this problem you are not likely the first to see it. Summit is a top notch outfit and so is Edelbrock. I don't think they are gonna stiff you.

Even IF the next one from Summit is bad what is the "chance" you are taking? They will step up they always do. I would look at something being screwy on your block just as much as I would think of Edelbrock selling defective stuff.

As for Summit...they have very little skin in the game. IF the manifold is bad they just send it back to Edelbrock or scrap it and charge back some cost to Edelbrock. Then they send you another one. Summit is not gonna risk their reputation over one claim of a defective product...even if the issue is not the manifold they are not likely to get in a possibly public piss--g contest over a $150 +/- item. It is just not in their best interest, in point of fact it IS in their best interest to immediatley send you a new one and thereby GAIN a BETTER customer support / service reputation.

I don't see anything being taken as Chance here. All that is in play is the time for the UPS guys to get the new on to you.

You are worried over nothing IMHO.

I had a problem with an Edelbrock small block intake, not like this though, i called Edelbrock and they told me i was crazy

Who ever tapped the boss tappet is so far when we put the coolant line fitting in it bottoms out, its not tapered, it was a simple mistake and was tapped too far

When did we notice this, when the engine was in the car hooking up heater hoses. They would not ship one out for exchange, they said you have to send that one back so we can check it to see if it was damaged here or else where.

Well gee, i didnt tap them. I wonder who tapped them too deep.

I had 2 intake sitting here to use on engines, Edelbrock, i called Vic Edelbrock and said if i didnt get a call back on this matter i was going to send these Edelbrocks back and get something else

Fact is, he never called so i sent them back and got Weiand and now use all Dart

I've used 5 other edelbrock intakes on other cars and never had an issue. But then again, I don't know if it wasn't for the fact that I knew I had limited clearance on the front and rear rails with my Dart manifold that I would have checked.

I recently built a 540, Big M, AFR 325s. All new stuff. Edelbrock Vic Jr was poor fit. I checked the angle of the block decks to each other and to the end rails, OK. .010 deck clearance front and rear both sides. I checked the angle of the intake surface of the heads to the heads' deck, both the same both ends. Without gaskets the manifold sat on the block end rails. With gaskets it was off the block but very close on the drivers side. Larger gap on the passenger side. Looking down the ports it looked like the manifold was somehow twisted or something. the ports were too high on one corner and too low on the opposite corner. On the manifold the angles of the intake gasket surfaces to the endrails was the same both sides both ends. The distance from the bottom or top of the ports to the edge was about the same. I was using AFR intake gaskets, ended up buying a double thick set (like 0.060), using one of those along with one standard gasket. The manifold fit fine like that, ports lined up good. Upshot of deal is I couldn't find anything wrong with any of the parts but they didn't fit together worth a darn.

I've had excellent luck with Edelbrock parts over the years (decades), always felt they had better QC than any other performance parts company. I can't even guess how many of their manifolds I've installed, never a problem. Bottom line for me is I'll keep using their stuff unless I get another oddball, then I'll be in touch with them.

a while back Edelbrock had some problems with mach. on LS carb'ed intakes, but were taking care of people, so its not out of the question that maybe something happened on a run of these-good luck with it

Chris, I don't recall any red ink stamp but wasn't looking for one either. What does it mean? The manifold I got looked good but the box looked like it had been around a few years, has dust and shelf wear. It came from Lopers in Phx, I know they have a large volume business with Edelbrock, I've seen them unloading truck loads of the stuff.
