duh.. its been a while since i had a diff out..
i was thinking it threaded into the carrier.. not the ring gear.

what vehicle is it from?if its anything older than 72 its an 8.2, newer than 73 its more likely an 8.5 or could even be a 7.5/7.625

is it a clutch or cone style posi? sure its not an auburn?

from stevesnova site..
8.2 will have the 4 small springs the 8.5 will have an S shaped spring.
this is going off of stock units

The 8.2 uses 3/8 bolts in the ring gear. The 8.5 and 7.5 use 7/16 bolts. If the holes are large enough for the 7/16 bolts then it is not for the 8.2. The holes should be just large enough for the 3/8 bolts.

If it is an old Eaton that was installed by Chevy then it will have a casting number ED32118 for the 2 series and EDB30116 for the 3 series.
