Surging down track almost sounds like a lean condition...uh oh, might have to jack with the carb ;)
Mine was actually fat. It would stumble during the burnout and would break up in high gear. All I did between 2 weekends was raise launch rpm from 4400 to 5300 and changed the carb jetting. The car went from 10.00 at 134 to 9.67 at 138.
 
hello H, we had fun at the track with his chevelle.1st time its layed rubber in ??? a long time. he kept getting faster with each pass. he was approaching my fastest E.T. of 10:40 @ 130. i am glad he did not make another pass(LOL), because he may have blew my time away. but i think he will next time out. that car runs great even with a miss.i got my 555 back from shaffiroff and the block checked out great. so its a new short block again. me and him are supposed to race each other in march some time. it will be a great race. if nothing else they will look sweet next to each other on the starting line. look at his picture posted above and mine in my signature. they are built alike and look alike, and it seems they run alike.
 
If the fuel pressure is steady under load then go to the carb. I have a feeling you are Fat too as bracketchev1221 stated. The safe way to find out is to go up on the jetting to see if it improves or gets worse. NICE car! Good luck with it there is definitely more in it.

That one is kinda funky but you get the idea . that was on a 3000 chip on the two step leaving on the trans brake . It was after dark when i left on the 4300 chip but i have a vid of it and it came up about a foot higher. this pic of the same run is a little better if you look behind the car to the right the blue building that bottom floor is a bar with pool tables and the works . only in south Louisiana can you have mixed drinks and drag racing. yee hawwwww .

And one more thing Thanks guys , Without Team chevelle I would have a 13 sec car .I have got a lot of help from here. There are some good folks on here that are willing to share what they have learned .
