I just had the windshield replaced and resealed...that fixed that water leak, but I have a leak coming down the firewall from the inside of the car, running down to the driver side floor pan...its not the windshield....any other ideas?

Drivers side?......When its raining or being washed? If the carpet is wet on the passenger side...Most likely a heater core. Is the fluid slippery when rubbed between your fingers? Have you noticed any fluid loss in your radiator?

Driver side and only when washed or it rains. Good thing I havent put the new carpet and seats in yet....had about 4 inches of water after the last storm a couple weeks ago...doh!

any number of places on the firewall, there are holes all thru that area, screws, brake pushrod, accel. cable, etc. Can you see it coming in if lay the floor and look up under the dash?

You may have to pull all the insulation out to get a good look.

I had the same issue w/ my 68' ss,leaking on both sides.I had my wife run water from a garden hose around the windsheild area while I was in the car.(I was upside down w/ my head in the floor board).Come to find out...water was coming in around the kick panel vents. When GM installed them back in the day, they used something simular to "plumbers putty"around the outter edge of the oval vent opening about the size of 1st.grade pencil (3/8"bead) and squeezed the oval vent to the kick panel creating a seal to keep water out.Over the years,This GM material became brittle and cracked.I scraped the old off, rolled a 3/8 bead by hand of plumbers putty I got at Home Depot and replaced the old.END OF LEAKS.

I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!

About a week after I bought the car, I took the driver's side floormat out to vacuum it and noticed the carpet was soaked. I let it dry and then washed the car thoroughly from top to bottom. Same thing again. Ever since then I've never washed the roof (it's vinyl - I sponge bathe it). I will try the garden hose thing next time I wash it and report back.

Howard, did you remove any interior parts to find the leak or did you just see it?

Ant,Even during the daylight,I used a flashlight while I was upside down in the floorboard so I could see everything.(under dash) I had already removed the kick panels beforehand so I could shine the light behind the kickpanels and up the pillar posts.I thought ahead of this so I could follow the inside part of the vented cowl panel that rolls down past the door hinges. The water was found on both sides dripping above the kick panel vent(s).Then thats what lead me to inspect the vents and their make-up.This is why I had to replace the goop that GM used with plumpers putty.

Ant, Forgot to mention to be sure to clean out behind the kick panel(s) w/ a vacuum cleaner at the bottom to remove dirt, leaves, etc. so when water runs around the kickpanel vents,it will drain out. There should be a weep hole there for water to run out.I had to drill a 1/4" hole anyway at the bottom crease.(I added water afterwards to test):hurray:
