Are you sure you have Sealed Power #2456? ...or do you mean #2465? What's your comp. ratio? Thanks for posting your combo. Another one that shows you don't even need the large ovals to run low 12's to high 11's in a 3800 lb'er. BTW, we like those tiny 1Âľ tubes here. :)
ooops my bad... I tried to remember it off the top of my head and of course screwed it up... they are the L2349 Pistons. It was 10.1 with those heads. Here is a pic of the short block after I pulled the heads off.

Mark & Mike,, I'll let ya'll figure the HP of this Peanut Port 454,, stock bottom end,, reringed 9 years ago, only had .007 wear, 230@.050-.544 lift-109-107,, stock non ported PP heads, small valves,, valve springs 9 years old,, HEI, out of the box 950HP. Engine is in a 69 Firebird,3800 lbs race weight,, 3500 stall, slipping 23% at the end of the 1/8th,, th350,, 9".. 3.50 gears. Runs 1.65 60ft,, 7.65 at 88 to 90 mph in the 1/8.. the compression is 7.8 to 1,,, dcr about 5.9 to 1.---- ET Streets,, 28-11.50-15,, This is a street car driven to the track and around town. Just thought I would let ya'll see what stock peanuts run on the track.
I wish I would have seen this thread back in the begining. I have been runing a penut port 468 all year long. I just pulled the motor appart and it had a stock set of 045 penut port heads, comp 280H magnum cam some tried and true sealed power 2456 pistons. Before I got the motor it was in a 78 T/A that weighed in at 3800 and the motor had a Holley contender intake, Biggs 850 carb and some tiney 1 3/4" headers with 2.5" exhaust into turbo mufflers. A TH400 with a 2200 converter and 3:90 gears out back with some 28 X 12.5 E.T. streets. The car ran pretty consistant 7.6 @ 90 in the 1/8 and 12.0's in the 1/4. We put a 150 shot on it and it ran 7.0's with a best of a 6.89. When I got the motor I pulled the intake off and put on my Holley strip dominator since I planed on runing a larger shot on it. I also have 2" headers with 3" exhaust with Borla XR-1 Mufflers and 4:10 gears. Not to mention my car weighs in around 3550. Other than that I had the same TH400 and 2200 converter that was in the T/A and in my car it ran the same 7.6 but at 91. I started out with the same 1.67 60 foots that he was getting in the T/A but I got that worked down to 1.62 on motor. On a 225 and 275 shot it still ran the same 7.0's/ 6.9's. I came to the conclusion that the converter was not holding the power on the bottle which is why no matter what I threw at it it always ran the same. But no one that had seen the car run beleived that it had stock penut port heads on it.... I still have the heads and cam sitting in my garage next to my old 427. I have been thinking about slapping that together with those heads and cam. It would only be around 9.1 but it would still probably run pretty decent.

But anyway, this thread interested me for obvious reasons.
2 interesting combos.

Which springs am I looking for with the lower poundage 214#'s or higher poundage 250#'s.

Talk to Ron at Santhuff he will want to know the front weight of your car and the compressed spring hight you want so he can tell you what spring you need. That is how the springs are determined.

OK I'M LOST NOW:(:confused::boring:

All I know is I've got a 70 Nova stock, 10 bolt rearend, I know nothing as to front weight and all that?
I'm sure they'd have to know I have a big block but that's all I know to tell them?
The Moros trick springs go by poundage I guess, so I get the 250#s ?
now for shocks would something like:
Lakewood 90/10 be ok or are they junk, there not very expensive?

The Santhuff spring aren't badly priced but
On the other hand Santhuff shocks are pretty pricey?:noway:
http://www.santhuffshocks.com/shocks.html

Can I slide out with a cheaper shock like the Lakewood and prevent damage or do I need the $600.00 pair of shocks to prevent damage when the car comes back down, or is that where the spring takes place? I'm totally lost here.
Can someone offer me advise on a combo that'll work for me for my application or don't I even need it?

p.s. I'm so simple I'm still sitting here laughing about

I read that other one also... it is amazing how simlar they are. I am amazed his ran that well having only 7.8 compression. Mine was atleast understandable since it had 10:1 compression.
Agreed. Maybe that combo just doesn't need compression? Out of the ordinary, for sure. Would love to see it for myself. Love these combos that run faster than their supposed to. Underdogs!

This reminds me of some of the B-O-P combos I've seen. They are torquers.

What's a B-O-P ?

Just to add...Mine is about 9.3:1 and about 8:1 dynamic based on some theoretical math. Need to get to the track to see if it is as fast as it feels.

Re: calling Mark Jones

Thanks. What are the chances of getting that report posted? or re-posting the specs on the engine and dyno run?

Just trying to save some searching here... I can dig through the thread tonight if you cant post it (or PM it).
Thanks for the reply.

Mark,, with as many views this thread is getting, I know people are interested in your engines. In fact I saw your engines on E-Bay a couple of months ago and wrote down vortecpro-ebay because it looked interesting enough to keep, just in case someone asked me where they could get a good crate engine for a fair price. A lot of people on these forums would like to see back to back test for the pp heads you want to start using. I know what my firebird will run with them in good air as well as 103 degrees with 90% humidity,, through slowmasters and with no mufflers and 3 ft extensions. I just ported a set of gm 702's and they are now at the shop having 2.19x1.88s put in them. I am going to pull my pp heads and install these. But before I put them on it would be a good test for your heads for me to install them on my engine and test them and then pull them and install my 702s. then we would have real world test for my stock pp, your performance pp, and some regular home ported ovals. Maybe people will chime in and see if they would like this to happen,,, L J
This is THE test I have been contemplating.
I was just wondering if that 540 hp peanut ported engine was ever put in a car and run at a track.? LJ

While Moroso trick springs are good, Santhuff will custom make a set for YOUR car. Not a genaric set one size fits all.

Yes it went to Sweden and was put in a camaro, they were very happy with that engine. Of couse it never went to the track. I am putting one of my cars back together so we can test these engines at the track next year.

I called Santhuff and got a set of their springs coming thanks for the advice.:hurray::thumbsup:
He said as long as it's a stock Nova it's heavy, and they knew what to do.

Also got a set of Lakewood 90/10 shocks coming for the front end, hope there right?

Noel give me a call 719 650-1609 Mark
Mark,
Jet Hot Coating's header coated just on the outside was $729.00 and it only had a 90 day warranty on it, no better than what Hooker offers.

Jet Hot Coating had just one pair of 2" primarys left with the Jet Hot coating inside and outside, so I gottem at $814.00 they come with a 3 year warranty,
plus the fuel cell,

I get it some where's after new years, it's got new rockers, doors, full quaters, trunk lid, tail light panel, trunk floor, floor drops, both front floor panel where your feet go. I get it back in a few weeks and it'll get the cage welded in and I bring it back in February or March and get it certified. This welder knows the NHRA and IHRA rules and had me get the dash bar/door kit and front conversion kit for the pipes through the firewall to the engine compartment frame. I'm doing it like you told me to. I'll do all the mechanical work give it back to the body man for the frontend to be put on and painted. It'll have a 4" cowl induction hood. It will look real good even if it ain't the fastest on out there. I'll call ya when I get it and we'll go over the fuel system again so I can get it done before it goes to the body shop. Gonna have my hands full for 3 or 4 weeks with it.

Thanks hows that car coming?
Hi Mark,

We're in a ice storm now I was heading to the body shop to check on my Nova, so it'll have to wait one more day.

To update you alittle, I also got a disc brake conversion kit for it, it's got drums all the way around now and I don't wanna be like Freddie Flintstone using my big feet to stop cause I'll trip over them.l:):noway:

I splurged and bought a set of 40-312 S&W 54" wheelie bars so not :noway:to smash my $1000.00 headers, oil pan and cross-member poppin wheelies, so when it gets the roll cage welded in it, the same guy's welding the wheelie bars on it, which is the same guy getting it certified for the cage and chassis so it'll be all squared away and done right. http://www.swracecars.com/
Like I told ya it may not be the fastest one out there, but it won't be a junkbox either it'll be something to be proud of!

I'm also on the schedule to get a NHRA chassis cert. in March cause of the 130+mph and 9.999 or faster time.:disco::yes::thumbsup::beers:
