Hello guys,
I have a 12 bolt with aftermarket Moser c-clip axles and I have bought a Moser c-clip eliminator kit.

After more reserach it appears like these units have a tendency to leak on a street/strip driven application. I recall that Bob West reading had some success with c-clip eliminators on the street.

I am thinking of returning the kit and then one day in the future going with the Ford-style axle retainers.

Thanks

Thanks Steve,
What type of eliminators were you using? It seems like Moser have improved their product to reduce the chance of leakage..

C-CLIP ELIMINATORS
The original eliminator! Our improved c-clip eliminator kit eliminates the factory c-clip axle retention and provides a safety hub with sealed, press-on bearings. Now with an extra internal seal to help prevent leakage. The kits are required when replacing factory c-clip axles with Moser Custom Alloy Axles and are avaiable for stock, factory-type axles. Sold in pairs.

I don't know if I even need them right now, I have about 450hp motor right now and I am hoping to build something in the 600hp-700hp in years to come so I am trying to think long term. I would have to pay someone the press on bearings and I would have to remove 1/4 off the axle tube. I wonder what type of abuse the Moser c-clip axles can take??

Yep it would be great for some guys to chime in with some data. IF they did leak (as long as it wasn't a huge leak), I wonder if you could periodically remove the drums and spray some brake cleaner on them??

I know just to cut the axle ends and install Ford ends the going rate is $300. Then you have to remove and re-install the gears etc...

i guess id have to add. i will not install eliminators.

on another note. your hp does not come cheap. safety should rank # 1. do the rear right the 1st time. tom

in your case, i would prob just use aftermarket(heavy duty) c-clip axles for now-i have had great success with the strange kits, but later on if i were you, i would have diff ends welded on and be done with it

I decided to go with ford ind advice. I would have to pay someone with a press to push on the eliminators which would likely cost more than $100. Inevitability, from past experience I would be unhappy about "not doing it right". The axles I have are likely more durable than the stockers so breakage wouldn't be as likely to happen. I can use the $200++ somewhere else.

Under the NHRA rules it appears that under 10.99 you need..

The aftermarket axle requirement also extends to installing a C-clip eliminator kit in any rearend that uses a C-clip to retain the rear axle, such as the GM 10- and 12-bolts and the Ford 8.8-inch rearends. While the current NHRA axle rule does not include an SFI spec for axles, experienced axle manufacturers such as Summers Brothers, Mark Williams, Strange and others offer axles intended for this kind of abuse.

If my car goes low 12's this year I would be surprised.

Now you know why the corporate 8.5 10 bolt is desirable. Just as strong as a 12 bolt with FACTORY bolt in axles (no c-clips). Excellent aftermarket support.

I often wonder why they went to a c-clip retention system, I assume it would be easier to service??
