Ok here we go we restored a 72 elcamino and put a 396 with a 588 cam in her took out the 350.....been having problem with breaks thier really hard like no power at all and it feels like it takes for ever to come to a stop 4-5 car lenghts and thats stomping on them with all your might holding onto the wheel pushing down,,,we have replaced the front, lines, calipers, rotors,,,master cylinder 4 times do to people saying we had bad ones,,,,then went to new ones,,,,break booster new...back drums wheel cylinders and lines......pads and shoes also.....we even went as far as to put one of those 350. dollar electric break pumps on her......and still the same....could it be a bad booster? has anyone else had this broblem? is thier anyone in our area we could pay to help? or maybe some phone help 864-991-8534 please if you have any idea's please let us know thanks ken

a rock hard pedal is probably a bad booster. however, that cam is not doing you any good either. Is it rock hard all the time? or does it feel like there's a little pedal on the intial depress?

Where are you taking vacuum from?

im getting the vacume from a 350 dollar electric vacume pump.....direct hook up saying 19 on guage....i did notice the pump runs all the time shuts off for 2-3 seconds then comes back on....and when i disconnect the booster and hold my finger over the pump line it shuts off and stays off.....till i lift my finger to release vacume....is this a bad booster? or are they designed to release some vacume over time?

sounds like leak, probably a bad diaphram in the booster. which also explains the rock hard pedal.

with it all hooked up, can you hear a vacuum leak? possibly from the drivers seat with your head under the dash.

take the proportioning valve out and when you stomp on the brakes your drums in the back will lock up sending you spinning out of control into a telephone poll.
