Duct tape when it first came to be in 1942 was originally intended for military use in WWII. The war department needed a strong yet waterproof tape to seal ammunition cases.
And the rest is history...

It was used on me, but I wasn't concerned at the time what the Corpsman was doing. Hell, I still use it IF the need arises. ;)

brake clean is better than carb clean. As a side bonus this method with either spray helps you find all those little cuts and gouges you didn't know you had. Nothing like a like a little acetone to point up an open wound.

Gasoline and solvent work pretty good too.
