I have been kicking around the idea of switching from heavily ported 840 heads to aluminums. If you guys had to choose between the AFR 305s and the Brodix 295s as a replacement for the iron 840s which way would you go? They are very simalar in price from summit.. Also what kind of gains would I expect to see? Aside from the weight obviously:D

4 bolt 396
0.30 over,

840 heads heavily ported 2.25 1.88 valves

Hi Hollis
While I sell both heads I think the Brodix is a better fit for your engine
And if you don't think they will make power just look at Bob West's car
He has Ovals on his 500" engine & it seems to run pretty fair

The Brodix 270cc oval is a much better match for your baby rat but the rectangular one will work if you already have an intake & need to use it.

And for the next two weeks the Brodix heads are on sale from us ;)
Give me a hollar if I can help with either head,,,
As you know we have pretty fair pricing on both AFR & Brodix, especially the Brodix right now,,,,

BTW, I still think those headers are too big for your engine :D

Foul play Mike, you arent allowed to pick a head that isnt an option.:D

Thats like picking option E on a A-D test.

Nah,,, I sort of picked one
Brodix.. just don't tell Tony

And everyone here knows how I feel about AFR heads,, it is my first choice for the majority of the stuff discussed here,,, just not for a 400" mini rat
Now if Tony would just finish the AFR oval,,,,,

How's that for covering my ass,,,, :D

Hey Mike what head do I get to dream about for my 540? Since your up late and I need something to dream about. Tell the pack I said hi....

Better he only have to buy heads once. He will likely go bigger inches soon enough and will have a good head to start with then. AFR. Wolfplace is looking after your immediate interest.

Thanks for the replies!! Back to part 2 of my question. What real world gains will I see over the irons? I'm looking for numbers if possible, or stories of people who switched from irons. Are these heads really worth ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH? Mike, can't I use my rect port Team G on the Brodix ovals?

You left the best ones off your list.

Carl Foltz Engineering aka CFE/BMF sportsman. 310cc is the best available CNC box head out there.

Also without question one of the top of the line heads, I think it would be a toss up which was better between this & the AFR 315 & the BMF 310
But not for a 400" engine in my opinion

Hell, the last 470" engine I did made peak power at 6900 & this is with the 294cc RR so why would you want to but a 10cc bigger head on a 400" engine?
Unless you want 8000 ;)

469, (4.320x4) 11.0 compression, Brodix RR 294cc Rect heads with CNC chamber, T&D 1.7/1.7 shaft rockers, Ede Victor with Pro System's Dominator, 2" dyno header w/3.5" collector to 6" exhaust, fuel was 50/50 91pump & Phillips 110
Custom Comp cam 254/262, .703 lift, 110 sep, 106 ICL

RPM CHP CTRQ
3300 275 438
3500 302 453.5
4000 385 506
4500 476 555

Almost impossible to answer, it just depends on how good your heads really are

How much money the new heads are worth is a question that is totally up to you ;)

Yes, you can use the Team G on the Brodix ovals, this has been shown to work very well over the years even though everything we think we know about air flow says it won't
As I have said before, engines sometimes do not read the same magazines or frequent the same internet sites we do :D

And an intake change is pretty easy at a later date ;)

If you have no intentions of changing pistons, I think that you should make sure that the "dome" will be compatible with the chamber. I think that the AFR's are heart shaped.
