I can't believe I'm admitting to this, but it showed me that the dual friction centerforce clutch is better than I thought.
I just put some M/T et street radials on the 66 and went to try them out. Turned on to a side road, rolling slow in 1st gear. Pushed the clutch, turned it up to 4500 and dumped the clutch. ran it to 6000, spun maybe 80-90 ft., banged 2nd and still spun another 25 ft. BUT.....2nd turned out to be 4th!!! What an idiot! So... the tires need less air and I need to learn to shift. But, the clutch never slipped. I'm impressed.
66 chevelle, 468/4sp /12 bolt with 4:10's and a spool.

Larry did you do The break in procedure before you got on it?

This is a noob question, but how can you tell if the clutch is slipping given the sceniaro you described? I've heard of this before "clutch slipping", but how can you tell? What are the symptoms?

Thanks

My CF Dual Friction worked great at the track last time.Made 7 runs,4,000 lb. plus car,all launches at 4k rpm's,all 60 fts 1.75 to 1.78.Every run mph was 111,e.t.'s from 12.23 to 12.34. Clutch was hooking so good the Hoosiers turned 3 inches on the rims by the end of the day.:)

THe clutch has maybe 700-800 miles. No real hard runs, mostly just normal driving. I went to try the tires.

That's good to hear , I was thinking of that same clutch for my Chevelle. What are you running for a transmission? I have an old tired Muncie that I want to retire before I break it.

The trans is a "new last year" Richmond 4 spd., with a 2.43 first gear.

Good question, but if it slipped, it would not have spun the tires when it went into 4th gear. The marks in the road clearly show where I "mis-shifted," and also, if you've ever burnt a clutch, you'd recognize the smell. My point was, for the car to go from first gear, directly into forth and keep spinning the tires tells me the clutch is REALLY grabbing.

I have about 50 runs and 2 years of week end driving on mine, times are in the sig. I just had the trans out for repair and inspected the clutch. P/P had minimal wear disc looked worn but not burned and the F/W had some heat issues. I resurfaced the F/W CF told me later that media blasting would have been better, no break in again. Broke it in again and had a 1.62 60' @ 11.55
