I would say 25,000.00 if you plan on keeping the car. For a re-sale I would not pay more than 18,000.00 for it. If I did not have a car right now and I seen one that nice I would pay 25,000.00 for that car before I would pay 35,000 for a SS car in the same shape. If it is that original and just like a 1 year old car and such.

It's funny there was a similar 350/4spd Malibu on Ebay just last week. I really like the combo. This one was a rougher car, but complete ... and I think $4500 BIN.

I'd have a hard time buying no rust. I have yet to see one without rust in the window corners or lower fenders. Assuming so, and the thing looks brand new ... I still think $15k would be high end.

From the sounds of it, it doesn't matter though ... the sellers given you a price, and you like the price. What does it matter what we think it could be worth?

It matters because I wanted to see what the general concensus was. If the car was worth $35,000, I would have been knocking on his door yesterday, if it was $5,000.00 (Which I know it is not) I would have passed. it sounds like I am right where I need to be.

Here are the pics..... First thing I would do is remove the goofy front spoiler. I also think It would be cool to put the original wheels with the Dog Dish caps back on it.

This is NOT a restored car. It is completly original except for the mods that were done in the early 70's. paint, glass Interior are all as it came from the factory!!

I noticed a couple things like the heater not hooked up, non original carb, etc, but all the original parts are included. The Only non reversible mod that bothers me is the Hood Pins.

Looks like a nice car. I expect value wise it should be as stated above it would be a 15-20k car. With the current market there are a lot of desirable cars for sale that would generate more interest.
Since the antenna is not on the car is there a plug in the hole on the quarter panel Or did the add a power antenna maybe? I assuming it is a rear mount antenna since the cable looks to be extra long.
Gotta dig those shiny slots. I would be looking to get some newer tires if those are from back in the day
Again it looks like a very nice car. I'd be torn on to leave it as is or add a couple more bolt-on day 2 type hotrod parts :)

For any one interested, take a close look at the grille. This is the Malibu/SS style grille with the shallow centre bar. The one most people are selling is the one with the bar that is roughly 3/4" deep, about the depth of the lower bar in the picture. The trim mounted on the deep bar will be out about flush with the front of the headlight trim ring. This car also has the original shifter boot. These boot were thick, heavy and not very pliable. Mine split out at the handle over the first winter as did every one that I knew of. GM warranty replaced it with the boot that everyone has today with all the accordion folds. It is very pliable and lasts. It looks like the same shaped Hurst handle that I put in our Chevelle when it was fairly new. The curved handled Muncie looks to be boxed up for safe keeping. Few people have seen or recall this particular boot. That shifter looks like the same Hurst that I put in our Chevelle back then. At least he has the original curved handle Muncie shifter in a box where it belongs. They were AWFUL. This car is a real time capsule to be studied. We had a '67 Chevelle in the mid '90s sold out of Days Chevrolet in Ackworth Georgia. It was babied all of its life and was in this kind of shape. They do exist in this condition but are rare.

Very nice. I agree the spoiler has to go. Too bad about the hood pins. Hood can be repaired and painted though after they're removed. I'd go with correct 14"x6" Rally wheels or '69-'70 SS wheels and put all the stock stuff back in the engine comp.
Actually, the Hood Pins don't look too bad. I don't know what is more of a detractor to the value, the Hood Pins remaining or the fact that the Hood was repaired and repainted.

I would probably put the original steel wheels with the hubcaps. Maybe have the rears widened a but to fit some nice radials on the car. Did anyone notice the Bias ply tires?

hemmings had a story recently about "period correct" cars, meaning they were seeing a lot of cars lately that were moded to the period the owner wanted back when he couldn't afford those types of rides. in this case, if that were my ride, i'd leave it just where it's at. you have the original stuff in boxes, so if you ever went to sell, the new owner could do what he wanted, but for me, i saw and coveted many chevelles in my earlier days that looked exactly like the ride your buying.

hemmings stated that a lot of cars they're seeing these days even have lift kits and slapper bars, people are putting the cars in the shape that actually brought us to this hobby in the first place. people forget, we loved and coveted these cars not for they're value, but for the style, and originally, for the price, and availability of cheap parts. we all have stories of the $600 56 chevy, or the $400 firebird....

by the way. autoguy, you might work on your approach, bangin on the "experts" when you didn't have pics early on, wasn't a way to make friends. you'll find these guys know thier stuff, and and are more than willing to share that expertise. we've had many guys come on here with "holy grail" cars, only to be absolute junk, when the pics came in. it looks like the car your getting is pretty nice. i'm jealous, and i hope you have some fun with that ride. by the way, did you mention if you were keeping or flipping that ride????

Sorry if I came off the wrong way. I guess I felt there were a lot of doubters here. As you can see, the car is what I described, and I hope this will add to my credibility here.

At the time I first posted, I did not have the pics, although I saw the car from a distance. I have enough experience looking at cars to tell if one is a rust bucket or not, even from a distance.

I thought the same thing about possibly keeping it the way it is for a while. Like you said as long as I have the other parts, they can be installed at any time. I think if I were to sell it, I would get it as close to stock as possible before listing it for sale.

I have been buying and selling cars for a long time. I have a '72 Malibu Vert I have owned since '82. The number I had in my head is pretty close to some of the opinions that were posted here. I was not going to use anyones opinions to make my decision, just to either re-enforce my thought one way or the other.

I still wonder why you have not disclosed any details about the amount of money it took to purchase the car. You have expected responses from us on value but have kept a shroud of secrecy on the car in regards to what it took to buy the car.

This thread is titled "What's It Worth?". A lot of guys here rely on info received here to do honest appraisals or give advice that has some basis. A car like this comes along very seldom and I would think most of us would like to know what its value is in the market place.

You state you have bought cars for a long time, owning one since 82. I have bought and sold them since 66 and found out 1 1/2 years ago when I joined this site I did not know diddley squat. My knowledge has been broadened by the sharing philosophy that exists here.

By the way.....In my podunk hometown of Daingerfield, Texas there were three 69's set up as yours is. One was green with the lower silver trim. We watched as it was transformed into a fire breathing monster that only the most High Performance car off the showroom could handle. You have stumbled on something very nice.

What I pay for the car should not determine what someone here thinks it is worth. If I said I paid $5,000 would it be worth $20,000? If I pay $25,000 is it too much? I was looking for some opinions of anyone that might have bought or sold a similar car recently. I guess there are not many around in this original condition.

I did not buy the car yet. Hopefully I will know by tonight or tomorrow. I am still negotiating with the seller.

Even if I did buy the car, how smart would it be to list the purchase price for all the world to see, and then turn around in a week, month or year and try to sell it?
