I've been searching around the forums about the 454 HO engine from gm performance and have been reading about oil burning issues. The problem is all the threads I have been reading are from 2002 and 2003 range. I would think by now that these issues have been fixed. From what I read it looks like the problem was with the cylinder bores. In any case I really like the idea of the 2 year warranty but will not buy an engine that I know has problems to start with.

I was also looking at the PAW 427 long block but after searching around here a little bit I found that PAW is not very reputable. This still true?

Sorry If you guys get asked this a lot about the 454 HO motor but I could really use some advice about it.

My 454 HO was a July 2003
Nothing wrong with bores at all

Valley cover needed to have a couple of "tabs" removed for it to seat properly on the heads and still allow the intake to seat.

The monkees assembling the motor put the rings in upside down.

The machinist that tore down and inspected the engine told me the block was just absolutely perfect as far as bore and taper went.

Went thru 15 qts oil in the first 2000 miles---oil dripping from the tailpipes.
Car has not use a drop of oil since Doug honed it and installed new rings and valve seals.

Mine is a 2001 and I was just lucky mine runs fine and no oil issues. There is a fella on here that builds engines. "WOLFPLACE" I believe it is and from what I have read on here much more bang for the buck than the GM engines. Might check with him before buying.

Buddy of mine bought one a month or so ago and has had no problems with it at all so far.:thumbsup:

Not to steal the thread but has anyone heard anything recently about the 350 Goodwrench's burning oil? I remember that there was a big problem with them in the last few years, especially the 290hp ones, wondering if they had fixed the problem.
