Welcome Mike! Unfortunately, you've asked one of the hardest questions to answer. In a nutshell, "what's it worth" always boils down to "What is someone willing to pay". It's a very subjective figure based on condition of the car, options, rarity (and H/C's are rarer than SS cars any more!) so I'd say comparable to slightly higher than a comparable SS. Curious as to what the seller is asking?

Re: 1971 heavy Chevy

It is practically worthless, so I take it just to get it out of sight and mind.

Really, I have never understood why Heavies haven't become more popular than they are. They are rarer than SSs and not many survived being transformed into SSs. If I ever catch the "numbers" illness I'd walk past every SS available to get to a Heavy.

Same here!
Always had a soft spot for a "Heavy".

I liked the exterior styling of the Heavy Chevys, but the interior was another story. Most came with bench seat, column shift, rubber mat instead of carpet, base Chevelle door panels with the ugly wood grain strips, sweep dash, etc. I'm not saying all came like this, as you could custom order, but most can with the bare minimum.

If I were building a 71-72 hotrod Chevelle, the body would be cloned as a Heavy Chevy and the interior would be a black, bucket seat, SS interior. Now that would be sweet!!!

Actually I'm building my 72 Malibu back as a Heavy Chevy. I personally think the SS clone thing is gotten to the point of being boring, and I wanted to do something different. Plus I love the side stripe compared to the band-aid stripes.

Yup, an emerald shade of green with white interior and white heavy stripes. It'll be a thing of beauty. :D

Now, if I could only decide between actual '72 Spring Green and '69 Camaro Rally green metallic......I'm going for a stock vibe, so I'm leaning towards the Spring green, but it's just not quite dark enough. The other 1972 greens are too dark. BAH!!! I have a long ways to go before paint.

There is one for sale here locally for 17.5K. Its a yellow/black combo. The SS versus H/C thing is probably because SS models got the sporty interiors most of the time and the biggest engines. Did Heavys have any real interior options or were they all rubber floor mat stripped down models inside?

It would have been cool to get the 454 in a Heavy.

Here is my '72 Heavy Chevy -- someone put an SS grill and decals on the side before I bought it for $4200. Eventually, I would like to repaint it and bring it back to the style.
When I bought it, it had the original "wood grain" door panels. Being stupid I threw them away and bought new ones from Ground Up.

Yes, they were all base interior but you had a choice of cloth & vinyl or optional all-vinyl. They all came with rubber floor mats instead of carpeting as well. Your could optionally get full instrumentation, plus engines ranged from the 307 through the 402. Your could get a Muncie 4-speed or 3-speed with the big block or Saginaw 3 or 4-speeds with the 350s.

I have a 71 Heavy Chevy that I am restoring. Someone had turned it into a SS clone and now it is going back original. It is a Nevada Silver Heavy with Black Heavy strips down the side. I have done much research on this car and confirmed it with ACES president Chuck Hansen. It has bench seat, sweep speedo, and original door panels. I am trying to locate the hEAVY door panels new that came in these cars and no one makes them. My id vin # is 13437 which is the sport coup. They only made 17000 sport coups and of those 6700 were Heavy Chevy's. I would be interested to see all Heavy owners id#. If anyone has pics of their Heavy...I am putting a collection together. I have had several people wanting this car and would consider selling it because I want a Convertible....but it will be hard because it is so rare. Everything on my car is original even the engine matches.

That car looks great but I think the stripes are wrong. I saw a post somewhere else and it was stated that the stripes were too thin towards the front. I think they arn't suppose to come to such a thin point. I know there are decals from more than one manufacturer. I am still thinking of cloning my Malibu into a Heavy!

Hi Mike,
Mine was cream yellow with black stripes, 350, 4 speed, 12 bolt. I didn't know it was a HC untill I tubbed it. (stripped the paint and found the stripes folded around the doors and fenders) If I'd known I wouldn't have. It was black when I got it but I had never seen interior like that and found it odd there were no bolt holes for emblems. 72k on it when I got it back in '85 and wore out. (it had been raced with a BB in it then a junk SB motor thrown back in) When it comes time to redo this again it will have the stripes on it. That's the least I can do for it!

The link i posted, http://www.huntersspecialty.com/classics_complete/1971_chevrolet_heavy_chevy/pages/pic013a_jpg.htm Is Not my car. It's a link to a Heavy Chevy Resto i found. My 72 is an SS car. My original stripes were black SS stripes and a black vinly top. If you look a my picturestrails/KillerChevelle link you will see my Chevelle. I think you can see the cream yellow peeking through in some photos. I talked to my guy at Year One, He said their Heavy Chevy stripe kits are factory correct.

Here's my 71 Heavy. It's a real YF3 with Buildsheet. It's a 40k mile car that's had a frame up resto with a few creature-feature upgrades such as carpet, radials, radio and dual flowmaster exhaust. I love it, it's a blast to drive and sounds awesome!

Did Heavy Chevy's come with that roof line? You have Malibu door panels also. Are the Heavy Chevy or deluxe door panels available?

A lot of the interior has been replaced, so it doesn't surprise me that it has Malibu door panels (I don't have the originals). I know the seats should be cloth and vinyl but when redone it was replaced with all vinyl. I assume the roof line is correct. It shows two-tone dark green metalic/white paint on the buildsheet.
