My dad died a service connected death when I was 8. So, I decided when I bought my 2nd house that it was going to have a 24/7 lighted flag in his honor. When I bought my current home, the huge circle driveway was just begging for a lighted flagpole in the center. I rounded up some of the largest boulders I could find added dirt in the middle to raise the ground higher, and installed a 25' lighted pole.

I don't fly it daily, but I try7 to fly it for the typical days (and usually a few days before and after)... Mine's just one of those 2X4 or 3X5 flags attached to the front of the house...

Last time I put it up in the morning, we were running late, but I still made my 6-year old recite the Pledge of Alligence... One of my neighbors flys his constantly (on the house, but no light), and he commented about me and my kids and the Pledge...

I haven't seen my neighbors fly any, even on Holidays... :(

Everyday... but not at night as I do not have a spotlight.

Attention to U.S. Flag etiquette is sort of a passion for me. I was eating dinner at a local fast food joint several years ago, and was pleasantly surprised to see an employee lowering the flag outside at dusk. But that's where the pleasant part ended. He proceeded to wad the flag up under his arm like a piece of used aluminum foil, and with one corner dragging the ground, took it back inside and presumably threw it in the corner of the office. Next day I sent a letter to the owner of the local franchise letting him know how insulted I was. Well, to make a long story short, the owner enlisted a group of local Boy Scouts to come in and give his employees a short "in service" on flag etiquette. This gentleman is the franchisee for several area Burger King restaurants, and since that that time, I have not witnessed any disrespect for the flag at any of his restaurants.
If you're intested, the website below is pretty good reading...

Its as easy as searching for "American Made American Flags" but hey that would take some effort now wouldn't it? There are some states that have even passed laws REQUIREING all flags sold in that state to be American made.

Hmmmmmm, I always look, and the ones I find at Lowes are made in USA. I just couldn't fly an American flag made in China.
Likewise. I wear one out every few years, and I buy "Made in the USA" replacements at my local Menards and also have found them at Walmart. Check the package. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how many US flags are made right here.

I'd stick one of those packages in the manager's face and ask him how many Chinese nationals shop in his store. Then I'd start emailing corporate.

It's time we all stared making more noise about this offshore crap. The question is, are you willing to pay a little more merchandise made in the US?

I was amazed today while out shopping I picked up a few things not expecting anythign but "made in China" and was very suprised to find the following things at Orchard Supply and our local Ace Made in the USA.

AT ACE Hardware- toilet filler, toilet flap, toilet tank to bowl kit (all plastic)-Sacramento CA

At OSH- small yard flags "Made in USA"

I bought the toilet parts as I needed them, and they were even a couple dollars more.
