Thanks for the responses guys.

Could anybody explain the differences between the "BO" and "BQ" radiators? Most manual transmission L78's show BO on the buildsheet, while most manual transmission COPO's show BQ on the buildsheet.

I would think "BQ" with the extended slash so that the two tags wouldn't be confused with each other. Again, your guess is as good as mine. Does anyone know what the number on the rad tag means? Mine has "4" and the repro "BO" tag has "28"

It is interesting

I have my build sheet and another 427 COPO TH400 and it has BR in radiator box

I don't have my original radiator but have not heard anything about a special radiator for the 427 COPO Chevelle.

Keith, do you notice anything different on your radiator vs a L78 radiator?

I never found a build sheet in our car and the GM of Canada documentation doesn't show an optional heavy duty rad, so I would assume that mine is what they came with. Looks like the rad in our L78 car but I have no idea about it as we've only owned that car for 11 years.

This is getting interesting.

Here's some figures from buildsheets I have on file, info on sheets that a fellow TCer has recently sent to me (thanks Andy) and ones mentioned in this thread. This is strictly manual transmission COPO cars:

BO rad - 6 (all Micky's).
BQ rad - 4.

Regarding some L78 information that was sent to me (thanks again Andy and many others), there was one manual transmission car that did not get the BO rad - it was a Framington car and got the BQ rad.

As I had asked earlier, was there really a difference between the BO and BQ rad? If not, why the code difference

In general terms for 69/70 when you ordered a solid lifter big block with 4.10 gears out back you got an appropriate radiator. I don't think the buyer had to specify an upgrade in order for the engineers to spec one.

I believe the 69 camro's with bbc got the curved upper rad neck on dr side but not the bbc chevelle's.
