I just got a pair of slicks and gave them a pass with dissapointment. I poured down track bite and did a 15-20 burnout. I then launched it around 2k(auto) and burned them almost all the way down the road. I tried it on kinda rough asphalt, was that the problem? Longer burn out? Tips?

What air pressure?
Hooking on the street is a lot harder than at the track.

Im running 25psi and the burnout was in the 15-20 sec range..I just dont want to waste my tires launching the wrong way
25 psi is fine for tooling around on the street, thats what I run. At the track I aired them down to about 16-17, don't do this if you going to run to the grocery store. What brand, size are the slicks? are they screwed? Tubes? And a 15-20 sec burnout is a long time. I usually do a 6-10 and that gets my hoosier quick times plenty warm. Your shifting through your burnout right?

25 lbs of air pressure is way too much. let them down to 10-12 lbs of air pressure and do enough of a burnout to get the tires hot and clean. A rough tar and gravel type road will be next to impossible to hook up on so try a good stretch of smooth asphalt. Do a quick burnout and if you have a buddy with you have him squirt some track bite under each rear tire,do an easy burn out through the track bite then pull up just enough to get out of the track bite and stage the car and then leave..... should hook pretty well assuming you have a car with the suspension pretty well sorted out. Getting a car to hook on the street is mucho more difficult than at a prepped track although i have seen some serious street cars leave on a wheel stand on the street at some of those late night unsanctioned displays of acceleration:D.

yeah wow 20 second burnouts and your motor wont last too long.

i do like 5-7 second burnouts with 16 psi and i dead hook on stock suspension.

Mike, not to cause an argument here, but while I agree with your latter statement about 16 PSI in the tires, I have to disagree about the first part of your statement. I've done 45 and 50 second burnouts with cars of mine holding the revs at 5,800 RPM just playing around on the street, and it isn't tough on engines. It may or may not be tough on certain transmissions during gear changes, but as for engines, your engine is only under a mild load while performing a burnout, and it's under much heavier loads while launchig off the starting line and blasting down the track. I've never seen anyone blow their engine during a burnout contest either, and those guys do some long burnouts.

That isn't to say that I condone or recommend his 20 second burnout to get the slicks warm. I agree with you on the 5 or 6 second burnout technique, I just think that you gave the wrong reason for advocating a short burnout. It isn't for preservation of your engine. Peace.;)
