Frank, all you need is a little 100-125 shot and you are all over it.:thumbsup:

I still haven't ran the numbers myself... but I'm planning on it.:D
heck... Borrow the 4.10 gears for a weekend before i give them to mike, and make a couple 11 second runs just to say you did it.

Frank's motor + Gear = mid 11's

Over $400 new typically.....

So, ya get these for $300.....and I give you $100 for the low-dome STD pistons in your engine...cost comes to $200...:cool:
This way you get some workable compression and I get a bit more compression, and forged pistons so I can squeeze too!:D:thumbsup:

I quit trying to go faster, I don't think its gonna happen anytime soon. The car is still up on blocks:sad: The trans guy said all the sychronizers are bad, still trying to figure out how that happened:confused:

Maybe I should just give in and buy the sniper system and go with a 200 shot.

George, if you ever move to Canada and need a job, I'd hire you to sell cars for me. I think you're a natural. And I mean that in the most complimentary way. ;)

Why thanks John!
Three years as an Army Recruiter does teach you skills in making "the deal"
"....and Johnny, we'll even toss in a new rucksack!"

Part of this I know Ben has a budget....
I have a budget too!
There is a used set on eBay too BTW....make things even cheaper for Ben.
Just all are .210" dome "11:1 1970" pistons. If I bought any of these, it would force me to get OC heads and spend more money. (I had over 11:1 CR with RatVette, the L2268s and the 101cc heads...not very fun adding stuff and still pinging). If Ben gets some of these big boys, then the low dome slugs will make about 9.6:1 with my closed chamber 101cc heads....

So, Ben wins by being mindful of his budget, I win by getting a deal on used forged pistons. Our CRs will be near equal, and we can both squeeze with confidence. I'd rather squeeze a bit when needed then try to re-create a Crate LS-7 from back in the day.....

How the heck could he sell cars when he'd end up spending all his time remodeling every section of the dealership.

Heck, first day in ages that I did NOT do any remodeling!
Did get to play catch-up with maint of the back yard.

George, I saw your pic's on your 454 thread.

Man, there is nothing welfare looking about that engine of yours.

BTW, 2 X  for shooting that thing Chevy Engine Orange.

I thought I was the only one with the ol' school color on my block.
All the other gay colors are just FADS! True believers use "Chevy Orange"

The fresh paint can't hide the fact that this thing is a bottom-feeder.... If I find enough washers, I may even re-use those old Mr Gasket bolts....just paint the whole mess!
The old Vette valve covers I have are pretty nasty.....
Dennis down the street has a new set I gotta work a deal on....he no longer has BBC...
I just want this thing to look like it belongs there/has been there forever.
The old valve covers will achieve this goal handily.
I can't ever see coming up with all the Cowl Induction stuff....

Waiting to hear YES on that job I interviewed for on FRI. I sure am glad that my service did get me a pretty decent pension. Pay off a few things when I'm working and then some car money/car toys.

It looks like it would be around $700+ for new pistons/rings/hone/new camn/, head & intake gaskets, Cam grind, new Springs, etc etc...

Which would probably get me up around 9.71.1 comp due to my huge cc heads... maybe up to about 480-490hp at the crank from my 425hp...

Or Plan Zero.... Which should put me at 10.75.1 (is that about right, those pistons i posted before, in a zero decked block with 049 open chamber oval ports) Kevin's new Lunati cam or possibly one step below his & a RPM intake... HP Guess? 525-535hp at the crank? all that for less than $200?

I'm really tossed, as i did pay top dollar for what i have, but the cost to get it where i want it to be is just too much...

I'm gonna go ahead and spoil the surprise as i need a little more push to help decide one way or the other...

Idea is basically to swap straight across my Gen VI crate or a freshly built 468(2 bolt block), Forged pistons (the ones posted in my summit link) forged rods, forged crank, my choice of cam & lifters, 049 open chamber oval port heads, Edelbrock RPM intake

(sorry george, that means no cheap take offs for you)

Cost to me would be head, intake & exhaust gaskets, and i'll have to buy the valve springs & misc if the cam requires different than whats on there now)

As i mentioned, i'd be going with a solid flat tappet cam, probalby one step below what kevin's running, as i want to run 3.31 gears and my 2400 stall.

Put yourself in my shoes looking the expense of working around the Gen VI problems in my block, vs trading for a fresh ready to go motor.

BTW... motor is balanced and blueprinted, all recipts, and has less than 200 miles on it, and i've seen it apart this past spring- this isn't a craigslist "could be good" deal... I've driven the car that its currently in, and even with the peanut port heads it has on it right now, it would blow my elky away hands down.

So should i keep what i have, and save my $$ for a long time and build the motor, or swap for this other motor thats closer to where i want, but maybe doesn't have as much cool stuff in it as my crate does?

You can have my comp cams 280H if you want, comes with lifters too:yes:, it went 110.3mph + 150shot of nitrous = fast enough to get booted:yes:
Dude! You were trying to SELL ME that cam, now you wanna GIVE it to Ben?

Ben,
Hmmm, engine trade. Didn't figure that....
Let me think about this.....

BrIan,

Just messing with ya.....
The cam I need is already buried in my 454.....

Trying to see if Ben is getting a good deal, what does the other party GAIN by going to Ben's 454HO?
