Had to embark on a sudden trip yesterday during the heat of the gas price gouging, so I thought I'd throw out a quick report of what I saw regarding gas prices.

Fri-NoGeorgia $3.79
Sat. No.Georgia-Mostly none left or pay 4.09
Sun. No.Georgia-$3.79
Mon. Between No. Georgia through So.Carolina. From about an hour north of Atlanta through a lot of South Carolina stations were out of gas or charging up to $4.99 for Regular. Stations with no gas outnumbered the ones with gas by at least 4:1.
Numerous highway locations with 10 story electronic signs posting prices either showed nothing (they were out) or $4 range.
No. Carolina-Gas was readily available. The farther north we went, the cheaper it was. As we were driving, we heard that prices in Charlotte were out of control (up to $5.69 a gal), so we drove through that area. 2 exits past the last exit for Charlotte we pulled off to get gas at $3.69 a gallon...as much as we wanted.
Same in Virginia.
West Virginia-50/50 out of gas or reasonably priced gas $3.79-$3.89 range
Pennsil, Pensylva,...(ah screw it) PA. Prices and availability was all over the place. $3.69-$4.39 for regular or they had none.
NJ-Full Service ONLY. That means they have a real live person that, by law, must pump the gas for you. $3.59-$3.79, every station is open and has fuel...go figure.

you have to wonder if wholesale suppliers are sitting on supply in order to drive the price up

My take on it is that they held back on shipping gas on both fearing the loss of supply and praying for a price hike by the Weekend.

Stations that bought paid high prices, as did we. Once the fear/greed passed, they were speeding gas trucks to stations at normal prices. It;ll all be back to normal in a day or so. But is $3.69 a gallon "normal"? Nope.

The oil companies have us right where they want us. Unless they are forced to lower prices I think they will continue to bleed us dry. My gas bill last 2 months has been over $600 each month. I look at it and can see the SUV being filled once or twice and a couple of Chevelle fill ups but the rest of it is normal driving in the Vibe and Sunbird, both cars get about 35MPG. My wife and I carpool almost every day, we make one or two runs out on the weekend and rarely go far from home now. Oh, $25.00 to fill a lawn mower gas can. Can't forget it. This is really starting to hurt.

Yesterday on the news they were talking to a local oil pipeline guy. He said in Georgia this time every year there is a shortage of gasoline, add that to the hurricane disruptions it was causing a problem especially when people are topping their tanks off ever day. If people would resume normal gas filling things will ease in a short time.
The reason for this yearly shortage is that it is at this time each year that the change over from summer gas to winter gas happens. The federally mandated gas mixtures required in summer cause a shortage each spring and each fall for a period of about 5 days. It compounded the availablity and thus the price.

I heard on the radio today that oil was under $92.00 a barrell, It should be about $2.50 / Gallon for gas - Rediculous. (sp?)

I just spoke to a buddy of mine who lives just north of Houston. Our gas prices have been about the same as theirs for the last couple of years. He is paying $3.69 a gallon, we're paying $3.99. He is in the hurricane region and paying less than we are? Nope, their not screwing us......

I paid $3.29 a gallon here in Phoenix...people here think that's great...until I remind them that less than a year ago...they were angry because it was $2.50 a gallon!
