So let me see.....
I think my BS Alarm just went off

edit.....would only bump you from 8.75:1 up to 9.6:1
Compression increase 4% per point...you'd see about 18-20 horse increase for $420 plus balancing
What else are ya planning, matching bigger cam?

It all depends on what heads he is putting on with those pistons:D

Kevin,

Correctamundo!
Now that Ben is married with obligations.......can we really see him tearing into his perfectly good, expensive, crate motor?
Sure, basic ringjob will not make the engine faster....
Shave of the heads and shim gasket will do 7/8's of what he is hinting about here with the piston set at 4x-5x the cost

Now you hint Pistons AND HEADS.....:noway:
Unless he won Lotto or HIT-5...I can't see him doing JACK for new cyl heads unless he's made a deal for some ported 396 heads lying around up north....but then he'd have WAY TOO MUCH CR....

I couldn't help myself, and slipped a tiny bit-o-info... but thats all you get for a little bit.
Kevin knows whats going on though since he stopped by last weekend and got the scoop ;)

Goes off a lot at your place, doesn't it? :D

Sure does! Every time I see you post about whuppin' my Elky old friend!:D
We'll just see what you are up to.....

Lookin' straight through Ben's smoke and mirror show...
NO more than a bigger cam, shave of heads, shim gaskets....maybe some bowl work tops.

Muhahahahahaha back at ya mutha!
The Elky now has a little brother!
I got my S-10 back from #1 a year or more early

That's right.....I now have a get-around vehicle so the Elky no longer needs to meet all the 'good behavior' requirements.....
Muhahahahahahahahha!!!!

George if you really want to build a toy... stuff that 454 into the S-10 and have something thats actually fast.

Just think, low gears, big tires, big converter, big nitrous kit...:D

10 years in the making..............:D

Better to put something together ONCE then disassemble, reassemble, repeat as necessary:D:beers:
Hell your engine stand has Frequent Flier Miles!

True, but a nice cam won't cut down on his oil consumption, and if he's gonna pull the old pistons out...;)
Hone and rings will take care of the oil consumption
Shave the heads, deck the block, run a shim head gasket (if they make one for Gen VI) All doable for minimal cost.....easy .5 pt of CR.
As long as you have some CR, BBCs are not horribly sensitive to CR and you can run bigger cams with little problem. Just gotta keep an eye on the intake specs to keep that rect port flow up so ya don't kill the torque....

I just figured I'd amuse you and post a few responses to your thread Ben.
I wouldn't want to see this thing end with 4 views and 2 responses

Ben,

It was good talking to you earlier!

I know I'm not a "big block" guy but it sounds like you've come up with a very reasonable and viable way to get that Elky down the track for not much outlay.

I'm gonna have to be careful or I'll end up chasing that dang grey bucket of yours to the stripe again instead of the other way around. That's alright though...competition is a good thing, right?

Doc already told me my shortblock will handle another 75hp shot all day.

By next summer we're gonna end up with our own little TCNW 11.50 bracket.
Kevin, John, Dave, both Ben's, Mike and Mike P, and myself.... I apologize to anyone I left out.:beers:

Who'd have thought a year ago it could happen?

It looks like I'll need to build a "Race Car" this winter to keep up with all you mad men...:clonk::clonk::clonk:

I'm thinking low 12's with the 3.31s... high 11's should be doable with a 120shot.
