What would a 1968 426 hemi with the dual quad setup be worth? A buddy of mine just called and says he has an opportunity to buy one. He said it has been sitting in the back of a van for the past 30 years. I'm assuming it needs a rebuild and has never been taken apart.

I guess it would also depend on what it came out of.
Don't know much about vin numbers on mopar motors.
Even so, a new 426 Hemi runs like $13K+, with the 2X4 intake... Lots of people probably looking for "Date Correct"... I'd think $5000+ for a rebuildable complete core, maybe much higher...

Who knows if everything is as it seems, I'll try and get more info such as what it came out of and if it's all original. I don't know what they are asking for it yet.

I would think the price would vary greatly depending on condition. You would have to inspect it internally before you could even consider putting a price on it. Who knows if it is an untouched original engine or a unusable blown motor?

Absolutely correct

A friend of mine paid $15,000 for a 426Hemi with original 4-speed taken from a wrecked 69 Roadrunner back in the early seventies. Motor has been stored properly, so it should be OK. Original owner had plans of putting it in another Roadrunner but never did. Probably never thought it would be worth $15,000! My buddy has a pristine body 6 cylinder 70 Barracuda it will be going into someday.

Wow, those prices are incredible! My buddy supposedly saw the motor sitting in the back of the van, and was going to try and run the numbers. If he ends up getting it, I will let you know what he paid. I say "if" because it seems he is always finding great deals, then something happens, and it falls through.

I would say 10-12k easy We bought one about 6 years back for 5k with a torqueflight and a dana 60 from a 66 charger. However, it was from a friend and he had about 13 other 426's just laying around at the time.

If its complete and standard bore $10,000 to 15,000. If it has the air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, dist, mounts closer to 15,000. Just had a complete 66 motor less mounts and manifolds sold it for $12,000 and that was a fair price.

Well, it looks like it was too good to be true. My buddy called me and said the guy gave him the numbers and him and another guy tried to run them, but nothing is coming up right. Then someone told him it is not a 426 hemi. He then told me that he did not actually see the motor. I told him that I want to go look at it, if he is not interested. So supposedly he is going to call the guy on Tuesday, as he is going away for the weekend. We'll see, but I'm not holding my breath. Where would you find the #'s on the motor? What is the easiest way to tell by looking that it is a 426 hemi? I know they made other sizes, just not sure if you can tell just by looking. I'll keep you posted
