well if most of u havent heard the toronto police have strict guidelines now for street racing and doing 40 or 50 over you get a 10,000 fine and your car impounded. street racing is apparently a big concern and they dont want ppl upgrading parts on there car.

i saw this on ebay from the toronto police auction. if there trying to make these rules stay why are they selling this on ebay???

i just dont understand. street racing isnt a problem compared to drinking and driving and other problems that the gov wont deal with. whats your thoughts?

Because it has nothing to do with cutting down on street racing, and everything to do with making a profit for the state.

Correct ..... continue

Funny thing is, they won't ship it, so that stuff will go back on local cars. Interesting...
Yes ........ an Every Cop in the city KNOWS how much MONEY they made selling it .....

And what it looks like ;) !!!!

cash the check & repeat ..... cash the check & repeat ...... cash the check & repeat .....

Must be a sting. You win the auction, pick it up, they follow you around, wait till you install it and bust you for having a modified car for street racing and then they get the whole car?????

the street is not the only place to race.
they are making profit.
they know who got the parts and can now wait until the parts are installed in the new owner's driver and they can bust them for street racing. what if they don't speed thougH?

all about the benjamins.

It wasn't the Toronto cops but it was a force in southern Ontario about 2 years ago that basically hung out by a race track and busted people coming and going to the track for non-compliant equipment. This stinks on so many fronts. First of all, the drivers were taking it to the track and now the heat is staking out the entrance to the track :wacko: They want to keep it off the street :clonk:.

Yes, Ontario, the province that is practically disarming the entire population (except for law-flouting gang members that go to Calypso clubs withh 9mm or 45s; shootings happen, 200 people there and nobody ever sees a thing, ever).

The Toronto mayer David Miller is vehemently anti-gun (does not even recognize legal gun ownership) and anti-car. Even more incredible is that loads of socialists live here and love the guy! A recent poll claims that the majority of Torontonians WANT a carbon tax  (they didn't poll me...) Jack Layton wants us to ride bicycles in the winter! Buy a clue!

Don't get me started...

I will not get you started..lol.i have fond memorys of heading up to TO and watching real muscle roll down Yonge Street circa mid 70,s.Not this rice burning fast and furious turbo/nos crowd that drift thru intesections with no concern for others. The back halfed 68 Cuda with wheelie bars and cam 2 sticks in my mind and he never exceeded the speed limit.Did not need to..the exhaust note and the stance sufficed and most likely could have backed it up in a controlled setting,iE..drag strip.

George, I hear ya! In our local car club we have some old timers (hmmm, race veterans) that can share lots of stories. One guy had a pit pass back in '64 and was rubbing shoulders with Dyno Don, another is still actively racing (his Cobra Jet Torino) and is personal friends with Barry Poole. Thursday nights are great for bench racing and seeing some local Canadian iron.

Cam..just out of curiousity, how would the local constables respond to a blown big block cruised down the Don Valley or Yonge St at the posted limit.

I`ve never once had a problem with the police and I`ve accidentally (and yes I do mean accidentally) done some pretty stupid stuff in my chevelle and had the police stop/question me about it but none of them have given me a hard time...Most just want to know about the car...Hell some have even regaled with stories of there own. I've gotten in a lot more trouble doing far less to my untouched sts than my chevelle

There are 2 guys that showed up at our club meets with blown Mopars. One guy has a '69 Road Runner with a blown 440 & 2 4s, the other has a '71 Demon 340 that I think had a Mopar small block crate motor that was bored & stroked to 408. They drive them every week and usually don't get hassled. Garret drives the 'runner and was pulled over last year. The cop was giving him grief but let him off (he wasn't doing anything to warrant the stop.)

Another guy I see at the meets has a 505-powered '70 Nova. Cops have been hassling him, but he gave them a reason by driving 60 on a 40 zone.

It tends to be the ricers that get nailed, but most often those are the guys that are actually street racing at the drop of a hat (don't tell me driving fast is street racing, but the new law says it is...). Cops hassle ricers for things like non-compliant lights, nitrous (a big no-no with the new law), bumper height, excessive noise. I have seen a surprising number of grey market RHD Nissan Skylines driving around town. They are obviously non-compliant, yet I have not heard of them being outlawed.

If your car makes too much noise you are asking for it. I broke the flex pipe on my '03 V6 5-speed Passat wagon over the weekend. I was in effect running an open straight pipe. My neigbors commented that it sounded like an unmuffled Harley when I started it up, but at mid-revs it had a nice growl to it. Not wanting to get a ticket or burn a valve I had to fix it to the tune of $2000 in parts (4 catalysts in the deal), plus I was told 5 hours labour  I've already got about 215k on it (that's kilometers, not miles) but my plan is to keep it to at least 500k. Jeez, I think I paid $200 for my entire Chevelle exhaust system (it's very quiet).

I think a cop can give you grief over anything they feel like, and there are way too many laws on the books. Sometimes it happens in the form of a traffic blitz on the orders of a Unit Commander.

One snappy comeback a cop supposedly used to a comment that "he must be on a quota." The cop replied back in a similar vein: "Oh, that was before. Now we can write as many tickets as we like!" ;)

So what happens if the said motorist gets busted with a modification that they bought from them? I would think it would get thrown out of court with a simple reciept proving that the item was sold by law enforcement.

I am all for getting speeders off the road. I don't think this law is executed appropriately. Automatically guilty things are always tough deals.

Speeding in excess of 50km (30 miles) over the posted limit or doing a race stunt (burn-out, donut) is a minimum $2k, max $10k fine, and loss of license/car for 7 days with no recourse. Makes me want to move to another province.
