Im about ready to finish assembling my 396, i am considering a 100 shot of Nitrous. Is it absoulutly a must to have an electric fuel pump. Can i use just a good mechanical fuel pump???

Anthony,
Almost everytime I have seen or heard of an engine that was destroyed by Nitrous ... it was due to lack of fuel. I am going to disagree with red and say you need a better than a mechanical pump IF you are going to spray it. Personally, I would run a completely seperate fuel line for the nitrous. If there are any doubts, call the manufacturer of your nitrous system and ask them. They will know for sure.

Keep the mechanical pump on the engine to supply fuel to the carb under regular driving. The electric pump is used to supply fuel only when the nitrous is used.Usually wired into the arming switch for the nitrous....

That way, if either pump ever goes out on ya, yer not stranded somewhere cause you can just disconnect a line and reconnect it..

the mechanical pump will support up to 100 shot of NOS, but I think you get more power out of adding the electric pump plus the peace of mind that there is always plenty of fuel even if one pump fails...
