Most of you have probably figured this out already, but I thought I would pass this on as it might save some a couple of trips to the auto parts store.

After trying to find the right v-groove belts for my setup, I learned that the last few numbers of the part number on the belt might hide the belt length in inches.

So a belt part number of xxx565 means it is 56-1/2" in length.
But a part number is xxx563 means it is 56-3/8" in length.

So if you grab your wife's measuring tape from her sewing kit, it could probably get you pretty close (within tightening range).
Anyways, hope this helps.

Just curious Dan...were you able to use the same length belts as I indicated?
Did you note the differences in alternators? Thats the real cause of this hassle.
Bummer...never got the email and was wondering how you made out or if you had gotten back to fooling with it.

Hi Bill,

The lengths that worked for you were too short for my setup.
I do not have a stock alternator bracket which places it away from the valve cover, so the crank-wp-alt took a 57-3/8" belt. The crank-wp-power steering was a little longer too (56") and I am using the stock bracket. I'll take a couple of pictures and maybe you can see what the difference is.

Bummer about the email. I told you all about it in there and thanked you for all the pictures and the time you spent helping me out. I will double-check it and resend it. I just replied to the address (BufloWill) you sent it from.

Thanks again,
Dan
