The 355ci motor wasn't built to run on the street for extended idle times. It was built for the Top Sportsman or Top Dragster class of IHRA. But, it ran good in my car for a few years. It was a good test piece.

my old 350 with 336x heads (76cc jobbers), comp 268 cam, 1.5 roller tip rockers, stock ignition with exhaust leak, 8* timing, and over rich 750 holley and powerglide trans made 268hp 323ft lbs on a mustang dyno.

it went 16.3 going through the last 1/8 miles in neutral also, with 308's.

Go big or go home.....

Seriously, as a kid, I always had what I considered to be "fast" cars for a kid, but I always wanted to do one "right" when I grew up and had the money. When I was a kid (16-21), my dream was to own a rat. When I bought the car 2 years ago, it had a fresh, low horsepower 454 in it. The first year I replaced the rear end, trans, exhaust, and complete suspension to get ready for the "real" motor. Then, late last summer, I swapped the motor to a 540cid, 700hp monster. For a street car, I think I'm on my way to getting it done "right".

I voted BBC with a smile on my face.:D

And what has it cost in dollars so far for you to do it right in your words???

I have a 454 with Crane Fireball II cam, forged flat top pistons .030, everythimg else is stock. Ran an 8.89 in the 1/8 on street tires (BFGoodrich T/A) and on pump gas.

I'm not sure if that was sarcarm or a serious question...

If sarcasm, "right" is very relative. By "right", I wasn't talking about the motor, I meant the car in general. I didn't mean to offend any SBC's. If I just wanted to go as fast as possible, I could have probably built a quicker SB for the same money. I just love the idea and the look of a BB under the hood.

If it was a real question, counting the price of the car, around $40k, and I haven't touched the body yet.

10.3 is SMOKIN for a '71 Monte. I would love to see that pass. Truely impressive.

Thanks, there are 2 video's on my website, one from inside the car 10.86 pass and one racing a nova, 10.82 pass. I have not had any luck getting someone to video me in the last few years, they always seem to mess up the filming in ways I never thought could happen..LOL.

Taking off the 2 1/2" mufflers this year to see what happens..LOL.

lol..No I was serious..I see all these big block motors and just gasp at what they must cost. Never really priced them out.other than a 502/502 around Christmas time past. Here they were selling for any were from $11,000 to $19,000 can. The guy next door bought one a year ago for $13,000 so I took a look at the costs.

I have around $20,000 total in my car plus parts yet to install, but I have them. ..lol this all started with a 1967 Chevelle 396SS I was looking at buying $26,000 and then the wife started on me about the 69 we had in in the yard for the last 10+ years...that story is a book in it's self...lol

Nope I was just interested as to how much it cost..
Thanks for the info..
