Hey guys, I may have the opportunity to score a 454 block in the next few days. I currently run a 414 BBC, but I wouldn't mind having a few more cubes. My budget is rather limited, so I will be swapping over the cam, heads, intake and carb from the 414. Tell me what you think.

Currently on the 414:
Performer RPM manifold
Holley 3310 VS
Summit HEI distributor
Comp 292H, .550 lift on both sides, 244/244 duration at .050. 110 LSA.
290 closed chambers. Unshrouded valves (2.19/1.88). Fair amount of portwork done, nothing extensive but good amount.
Hooker Comp headers
3 inch Pypes X pipe system with cut outs.
TH-400, 10 inch 3000 stall converter.
3.73 gears

I think you will be much happier. That particular cam and drivetrain should be a better match with the bigger inch motor than it is with your current motor. From the sound of the setup, compression numbers around 10:1 should be a nice match for the combo(give or take a little depending on all the variables), but thats close in the ballpark.

i agree also. but i would run a 750dp or maybe even an 830 or an 850dp, unless you are just fond of your 3310. i think a dp could definately help it ET better since you have plenty of gear and convertor.

M71- I have been told stories that VS are better for autos, as opposed to a double pumper. Is that just what it is, a story? I'll make the change if it substantially help, otherwise I'll stick with the 3310.

Anybody have any particular guesses as to what this combo might put out? Ballparks are fine, I'm away from my DD2000 software or I'd do a bit of messing with it.

that would be very true if it were an auto with a stock convertor, but with a 454 and a 3000stall and 3.73's there's no doubt that it'd pick you up in the first 60ft by a tenth or more. 3310's work fine, they're a great carb, just i've always been more toward maximum ET than mpg. i've picked up over .2 before on a small block with same stall as you and 4.10 gears, so i would imagine you would see close to that with a big block for sure.
