Here is a picture of mine in 1973.

I walked out to the garage and took a quick pic of it sitting on the bench. I am getting ready to clean it up and put it back on the car.

Bill,

I noticed that on the grill on the bench it appears the very bottom portion is black. Isn't that portion supposed to be painted the body color? This is the part of the grill that is partially under the front bumper.

Kirby,
That is the original grill off my Heavy Chevy and it is black. I think "maybe" the SS's had body color, but that is the way mine has been since new.
The pic I posted was takin in 1973 but its hard to tell looking at it. But that is the same unmolest grill that you see in the other picture.

71,
Our present kitty is an indoor type, but I would have no problem with her sitting on the Heavy Chevy if she wanted to :) None of our cats (or dogs) over the last 33 years have ever hurt any of our vehicles. If I ever get to the point where I think a car is that precious, I hope someone shoots me and puts me out of my misery :)

I have a 71 Heavy Chevy that I am restoring. Someone had turned it into a SS clone and now it is going back original. It is a Nevada Silver Heavy with Black Heavy strips down the side. I have done much research on this car and confirmed it with ACES president Chuck Hansen. It has bench seat, sweep speedo, and original door panels. I am trying to locate the hEAVY door panels new that came in these cars and no one makes them. My id vin # is 13437 which is the sport coup. They only made 17000 sport coups and of those 6700 were Heavy Chevy's. I would be interested to see all Heavy owners id#. If anyone has pics of their Heavy...I am putting a collection together. I have had several people wanting this car and would consider selling it because I want a Convertible....but it will be hard because it is so rare. Everything on my car is original even the engine matches.

Is it just me, or has the Heavy Chevy been receiving a lot more attention lately? Maybe it's cuz I have a low mileage 13437 car with a rubber mat and base line door panels.:D

There were a lot of descrepencies in the 70's when it came to car building. It's interesting to see the variety of known correct authentic cars.

So to add to the debate, I've noticed a lot of Heavy's didn't get the total blacked out grill treatment. Looking in the assembly manual does show black paint around the grill on the '71 HC even though many didn't get it. Here's a great picture of Jim Hudgins HC with the black around the grill.
