I think someone should not only inform Ebay, but someone should point the FBI/local authorities to this auction... I'd like to see someone confiscate his tags, and at the very least issue some "State" Vin...

"pulled for safe keeping"... BS

They are safer left on the car...

He probably removed the tags to keep someone else from doing it since the car is setting out in the woods.
That would be my guess also Dean.

but, by all means fellows, contact the FBI and Ebay to let them know of this guys attempt to fraud everyone

Instead of asking us all the '"why would he" blah, blah ,blah...why not ask the seller himself if you are interested in the car?

And, if your not interested in the car, why are you even commenting on it?

This is what really chaps my azz. No one has even bothered one iota to contact the guy and get the story on it, but are ready to confiscate his property, and force him to get state VIN tags because you have already convicted him of fraud.

You guys need to chill out. Lifes to short.

i agree what a stupid thing to do. BUT on the other hand if the con vin and all the other numbers match might not be a bad deal. except for him since he has posted that he did these things. boy would like to have that car with all the numbers intact.

A lot of work if you're up to it, but the payoff is a valuable piece of hardware. And a great cruising machine!!

I did and I am. I'll report back when I get an answer. I sold a 67 SS convertible about ten years ago and have regretted it ever since so maybe I'll get another one.

That's pretty much what we do. Threads wouldn't exist without comments.

It is against federal law to remove vin tags (for any reason) so yes he has broken the law!

i almost always remove my trim tag before my cars go to the sandblaster and duct tape off the vin plate and the #'s on the firewall.this is because someone nearly destoyed my tags and firewall #'s because the guy doing the restoration didn't bother to go over all that with a sandblaster.so what do you guys do to protect all #'s during a resto.i have 2 rare post sedans and after taking pictures i remove the trim tags so nothing would happen to them. how can this be against the law? i can see removing VIN tags. greg

I posted the question because I couldn't think of any reason why someone would pull the cowl tag off and VIN off and wanted to know some reasons why.

If you noticed there is a date code correct rear end in the garage and one on the car.

Since your a^& is chapped, I think you may need to be one to chill out. This was an innocent thread until you turned it into something ugly.

I'm not particularly interested in the car. I suppose when there's potential for fraud, intended or not, nobody should get involved unless they are the ones being defrauded? Like the guy with the phony L78 convertible that is advertised as matching numbers that switched trim tags so it would show manual trans instead of the Powerglide that a real L78 wuoldn't have come with - nobody should care unless they buy it and get screwed?

FWIW, it'd be illegal in Oklahoma to even remove the trim tag for 'safe storage' unless it's "...reasonably necessary for repair of a part of the vehicle to which the trim tag plate is affixed, and provided that such trim tag plate is not intentionally destroyed, altered or defaced..." which I would doubt if that includes 'storage' even if it is out in the woods.

Sorry, I didn't realize you were a newbie.

If you spend anytime at all in here you will see that the VIN tag police will bring up this kind of stuff everyday.

I just assumed you were one of them....or gonna be one of them :D
