I have a 70 El Camino with a ZZZ Crate 350. I have the original factory A/C in the car, but it doesn't blow cold anymore, and is just a horse power killer that is in the way. How do I remove the comressor and store it so that it doesn't deteriorate over time. Also, what do I do with the hoses and other lines? can I just cap off the dryer/condenser/etc.?

Thanks,
Dave

The filter drier, will have to be replaced. The condensor, evap and lines can all just be taped over or capped some how. If the A/C is not running and acting like an idler it in no way uses any NEGLIGABLE horse power, Now if you just want to get rid of it then just remove all excess parts and cap 'em, in the mean time, just take the belt off.

If you get cought intentionally letting out the pressure you could be subject to a $10,000.00 fine.

You need to take it to someone that has a recovery unit.
That's good to know. I don't think there is any Freon left in the system, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Dean is correct, especially if it is R-12. Some shops pay for R-12. To find out if you have any pressure, find the shrader valve and tap it with a screwdriver to see if there is anything that comes out. If there is a good pressure of spray that comes out you can then take it to an AC shop and have them evacuate it. If there is no pressure you can remove it without any problems or worries of a fine.
