Just wondering if they were any good? I was wanting a high rise like a strip dominator but I got a guy that wants to trade some stuff for an old school side ways carb Torker intake for rectangle head BBC

Back in the day they seemed to work pretty well. I'm sure some new stuff is better...but you get style points for the sideways stuff.

I took one off my boat to install a Performer RPM.

I don't see the old Torker being a benefit except if you were limited to a tiny carb by track rules or somesuch.

Just for clarification, they were not really "sideways", but they did mount the carb at a 10 or 13 degree angle which made 'em impractical for those chassis that used a linkage instead of cables to operate the throttle and TV or Kickdown linkage on the trans.

Back in the day (79-80's) I had one of those on my 427, ran pretty well too for a mild,hydraulic cammed motor, low 12's on motor, 11's on nitrous in my fullbody,full weight 68 Camaro. The throttle rod worked for a while, just bent it to the contour of the carb, but it eventually broke. I then converted it to a cable throttle.
 
There were Tarantula versions too that were a little larger. I used them on 427's and 454's..ran deep into low 11's and high 10's with them depending on car.

I had 1 on a 10:1 454 about 10 years ago, worked great for street intake. I'd use 1 again, definately good for 6000rpm and below combo's

i beleive there called "twisted torque" intake. i had a friend who had one on his 396 in his 70chevelle. it was pretty good. the car pulled pretty hard. but i would say that theres a billon other intakes out there with curant technolgy that i would run. unless your trying to build a period corect hot rod

I ran one 28 years ago on a 427, it was an oval port. It worked OK I thought & they look kinda neat with the carb at an angle.

guess nobody has ran with this intake??

If your plans are to install the stock convertor like you mentioned in your other thread and keep the 2.56's for the time being then this would be a bad intake choice IMHO and experience
 
I had one on my car when I got it, but I pulled it off....Hard to tell if it made it a difference since I rebuilt my engine when I pulled it.... It's still sitting in the attic just in case I ever want to try it again.....

Plans in the other post are temporary. When I get another daily driver then stuff will be changed. Gears, stall reinstalled (if I dont find a manual trans before), Heads, Cam, and others installed. Its gonna be a performer weekend car.
