Hi guys, sure wish I had researched this forum before I bought my 509 from world products, its a peice of crap. Leaks oil, smokes out the right bank and is completely undriveable. It will idle and accelarate fine but runs like crap anywhere in between. Big time dissapponted, no help from World Products. Makes my 396 look more appealing all the time, it will take me anywhere I want to go. I have a super clean 67 SS Chevelle that gets a lot of attention I am going to use every oppotunity to trash Bill Mitchells products. I have to go now so I can cry some more over all the money I wasted on this engine.

Is the engine not under warranty? I thought those engines had a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty.
I have read many complaints about Bill Mitchell products. This is sad to see someone fork out their hard-earned cash to a once trusted name and get screwed. Sorry to hear about this.

yeah i had built a motor for my 65 but was going to sell it and save up for their 427 small block. decided against it when i saw this site.

Here is the problem with the warranty, its warrantied thru an insurance company, OK no big deal. But I bought this engine and stored it for 8 months before I started the engine swap and 5 speed Tremec tranny swap. Had I read the fine print on the warranty card and sent in that warranty card within 45 days I would have a warranty. I admit thats my fault. But I still feel that an engine that cost almost 10 grand should run damn good. But maybe there is hope, I just checked the intake bolts, all were loose some half a turn on the bolt. I`ll put new plugs in it (there fouled already, only about 5 miles on engine) and see how it runs.
Have also tried 2 differnt fuel pumps, 2 regulators and will try a new Demon carb borrowed from my brother later this week.

My 427 was the same way does it have an AED or a Hardcore Carb? The carb they sent with my engine acted the same. World is now putting AED carbs on all their crate engines.

Don't get too down about the motor. Yea for that money you should not have a problem, but a lot of the money you spent went toward the good parts that are still good. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of the issues without taking it apart.

I almost bought one of their engines. Thanks for this site!
Same here. Was interested in one of the BM engines until I read the horror stories.

Makes me wonder how they're still in business......

Well here is the lastest, still can`t get the 509 to run worth a crap. Me and 2 mechanic freinds are stumped so for now this peice of crap will come out of my car and the 396 will go back so I can get ready for Power Tour. This sucks

have you contacted them, I know it sat for 8 months but maybe they will still help you out since it was never even ran. Is the carb clean inside? you probably checked that but its all I can think of

Just to balance things a bit, one of my buddies has a BM 540 and so far it is working well.

I have read many of these type of stories on here. When I was looking for a bigger motor, I finally decided to build it myself from the bare block (496) up with the help of everyone on here. It wasn't really that difficult (to my suprise) and I bought the best parts I could afford (all forged). I checked with everyone on here about the integrity and performance aspect of every part BEFORE I bought it. I then had a very good machine shop in my area check each part to make sure it was perfect for MY motor. Everyone on Team Chevelle was great and very informative and helpful. Needless to say (thanks to you all on here), my motor went together flawlessly and runs like a beast. And I know exactly every nut and bolt that is in this thing and that it is of the highest quality I could afford, plus the parts I used are also used by many other people on here (ie. in the real world) with excellent results. Other than a carb related issue that I have fixed, I have not had one problem with this motor plus I always feel proud at shows and the strip when people ask where I bought or who built my motor and I get to tell them "I built it myself." I got a great motor and the priceless experience of building it myself, plus knowing the quality of every part in it for a bit less than $9000. I know someone will probably tell me I could have built it for less, but I honestly would not have done it any other way. I know it is done right and in the end isn't THAT worth a little extra $$$?
Good luck with your 509. I'm sure you will get it running soon. You may have to do a pretty healthy tear down to do it. If it were me I'd tear it down the whole way and check all the clearances and then all the parts to make sure they are worthy of being in your motor.

Only way to make sure. If you are going to pull it out, might as well tear it down to find your answer.
