He never states it is original engine or matching numbers. He truthfully sais its been decked, no way to tell if its original or not. This is a true and fair statement. Leave the poor guy alone. :p

The brief description is honest. No deception that I can see. There's a long list of things wrong/incorrect with the car, but the seller is up front with all the pictures. Looks like a nice driver. I'd take it out on a Sunday afternoon and beat on it. Probably some good power under the hood, with the rectangular port heads, high rise intake, headers, etc. Seems like it's a fair asking price too. Nice color, as well.

No hood pins till 70, and the rear emblem is correct from what I can see from a distance.

You know what,

Read all my posts, yes I am down on the guys trying to pull stuff, but what percentage of my posts do I try to help people? A LOT

And decking a street motor adds as much as a kickstand on a horse

It just strikes me as a way to say " Maybe " its original.

I dont have to be here, some cool guys here, I found this site by accident, thought there was merit to posting here.

I can handle it!!

Im all good :)

Not to mention, Why are these engines being decked?
In answer to your question; the 396 block in my car has a hole in one of the cylinder bores and it needs a sleeve. When a block needs a sleeve, machining the deck is a standard operation in addition to align honing of the mains if need be.

I agree with that

But thats yours, how about the other 100 true SS numbers matching, that just happened to be decked?

Anyhow, Im not worrying about it, Ill choose how I like, and the people who sell and buy things, can do it their way.

I agree, nice car for the price being asked. It's obviously a 138 SS car. Whether the block is original or not wouldn't concern me at this price - considering, oh let's see, not stock intake, water neck, carburetor, fuel line, air cleaner, valve covers and not to mention the alternator is on the wrong side of the engine which might lead one to believe it's a 69 or newer engine. Point is, it's not being touted as a numbers matching, $60k opening bid car but rather (albeit from a dealer) a nice driver quality 68 SS someone could drive and enjoy.

o k are you guys high ;)
21000.00 isn't a good price....
when these things become gold.......

And I also understand your immediate suspicion with some ebay sellers who are just out to make a temporary profit by knowingly selling faked high dollar cars.
However, I don't think that the seller of this particular 68 SS has fallen into that catagory yet, but just stating what he knows and doesn't know.
Don't let that stop you from continuing to post your suspicions though.
The sad, sad idiot's who attempt to deal in dis-honesty need to continue recieving the message that they are not going to get away with their craft that easily. You can bet that other Chevy forums have other cars covered under their particular umbrella as well as Ford and Chrysler forums most likely do.
Now, as alway's, its up to the buyer to do their homework and research the product that they are considering.
