Thanks for the replies, I let her read them and it took alot of heat off me. I think the teeth marks on my rear end should heal soon unless there is another wave of a$$ chewin in the future especially if she reads the last post. The car has the build sheet and the window sticker. I will get them on monday and take a picture and post it. Do you guys think I should install bucket seats? I have a pair of original type bucket seats and was thinking of pulling the bench out and installing them. The back seat looks like new yet.

I'd stick with the original bench myself but, if your planning on keeping the car in the family go with what you like! Buckets look better but, a 4 speed bench car sure is cool!

I'd keep the bench. The shadow-gray/ green bench has to be a very rare combination.

So I take it you didnt pay more then a couple hundred bucks for the chevelle being in the shape its in. HaHa, If you get in to much trouble, I'll take it off your hands

It does have the M22 tranny but when my brother in law bought the car in 92 the original M22 was hatched and sitting on a shelf. We left it behind when we bought the car. I had the side cover off of the tranny in the car and made sure it was a M22 by the straight cut teeth, and the loud gears confirmed it. You guys got me second guessing my decision to install the buckets.

I tried to sell this car for my brother in law in about 1999. I was asking $13k for the car and the phone rang off the hook. I had several guys tell me they would have bought the car if it had bucket seats or black interior. When you open there is alot of greenness inside. That is why I thought I would change the seat and throw it up in the attic. I had offers up to $11k then one of the guys came back in the middle of the night and stole the car. We recovered it luckily but the ignition is still destroyed and they stole the cowl tag. It cost me 15k for the car. I could have had it for 9k back in 1999 but the cowl tag missing scared me off.

I like the grey. but have to say rare or not,......the green interior has got to go. I absolutely love stock restored cars, but IMHO, if I was in the market for a 70 chevelle SS and was going to lay down some serious $$$$, I would wait for another car to come along rather than have a really, really, really bad color combination. no matter how rare it was.

I like the bench seat, just not in that shade of green. keep the bench.

If it came from the factory with that color scheme keep it. My car has buckets now but it originally came with a bench seat because I have the bench shifter and no console. I don't think a 70 SS with gold interior had the bucket seat option( I could be wrong) But keep the seat I'm gonna change mine back as soon as I can find one.

The door panels are like new front and back. Also the back seat is perfect as well as the headliner. I can't remember the color of the headliner. All the seat belts are nice, but green. It's a green machine. When you drive it you feel like your in the woods. I agree its a horible color combo but I can have it nice in ther for a few hundered bucks instead of a grand. I got a feeling it will remain green.

I'd do two things to this car for sure.
Convert the interior to black and change to factory bucket seats.
I'd leave it as a no console car.
Get a new cowl tag reflecting the black interior.

Just these things alone will increase the value and desirability tremendously.

The green will drag this car down into the depths of the non desirables.

If I remember right it cost me a little over a 1000. to buy 2 old buckets and completely redo them with everything new. Interiors can get pretty pricey also, but if your going to do it change it to black, it will be money WELL spent. You'll definately have an issue with the green if you ever have to sell the car.

I can remember those cars when they were new, walked up to one setting on the showroom floor, opened the door and looked in, they really looked good, that one had a black interior.

Stop and think about it, its your car, get that green outa there, do it right.

Lets go back to 1970, you're young, and you asked this certain young lady for a date.

You don't know know if she will go out with you or not, but shes a beauty.

She waits a couple days, then calls you up and says okay, now you're a little nervous, but thinking, wow, I'll ask her to go to the drive in.

Call her back and she says, that will be okay, so now you're all set.

This is friday, and the date is for saturday. Your getting just a little more nervous about this date, saturday morning comes around, and your dad says, Dave, lets you and I go into town, I want to look at cars.

So saturday afternoon, he says lets go, you jump in the car and head to the chevy dealer, you have no idea that the new supersport is on the showroom floor.

You and your dad walk in, a salesman stops and starts talking to him, you see this supersport setting there, walk over and just stand there looking, wow, is that one beautifull strong looking car.

He buys the supersport, and when you get home he says, son, you can take that girl out with this, just be carefull, its brand new.

Now your really screwed, nervous about the date nervous about the car, whew, man, you tell yourself, so much is happening to me right now.

Later in the afternoon, well, its getting time to shower and shave and get ready to go.

All set, get the keys, your dad is grinning, he's happy for you, fire that big boy up, head for your new date.

Whew, I'm almost there, my shirt is wet under the arm pits from being nervous, oh well.

Pull into her driveway, walk up to the door, knock, and her dad answers it, introduces himself, and says she'll be down shortly, meanwhile he's looking your ride over from the porch, and not saying anything, then you hear, bye mom, and here she comes, and does she look good.

I bet she'll really love this car, walk out and open the door on that new super sport, and theres that green uphosterly.

Do I have to say anymore, you have a chance to make a beautifull car out of what you have, do it right.

Rob

yeah, Rob is right.
But I don't know if I want to have a green "uphosterly". This sounds like something you'd need to see a doctor about.:D
Now green upholstery, that wouldn't be as bad, I guess.

Do the car some justice and get that green interior out of there.
Once you go black, you'll never go back.;)
