I ordered a new mechanical temperature gauge that come with a temperature probe and looking for a different thermostat housing so it's not under the radiator hose. As you can see from the picture my current setup. Are the swivel ones reliable or do they tend to leak? Or is there one that is between this angle and pointing directly forward?

the temp sensor on my Edelbrock intake is right under where the thermostat housing directs the hose.

Yes the swivel ones are good. I have one on both of my cars for several years and never an issue.
Yes there are also ones that have less angle and ones that stick straight out.
Summit ( as do every aftermarket distributor, take your pick) has a plethora of thermostat housings

I ordered one that pointed forward but was able to make the one I already had work. I plugged the hole under the hose the sensor was using and used the spot on the other side with the new temp probe. I just had to get a new alternator bracket for it to work.

Hit your local parts store and ask for a 1985 Monte Carlo thermostat housing
