Used it for the past few year and will continue to do so.

Do it online via their web site and you can try it out all the way to the point of actually sending the returns w/o having to pay. It'll show you your expected refund/payment and then if you want, you can pay the fee and have it sent in.

By the way. I havent gotten this years software yet. But last year said it was tax deductible. Can you deduct the cost of this too and where in the software are you supposed to do that?

I used Turbotax and Taxact. Taxact is online based for the free version and does not require software like Turbotax.

My printer died and I had to e-file which costs $$20-50???? and was the only bad thing.

I think this year I'll go to the library and get forms to do it the old fashioned way. My dad will help me this year since it will be a bit more complicated.

I use a CPA. Costs about $275 for personal return. He always saves me more in tax than he charges. Turbo tax is good for simple returns but for anything half-way complicated I'd get a tax preparer. My dad uses it but spends hours just figuring out how to install and use the software. Its nice to just turn over the IRS notices, if you get them, to the preparer to deal with.
I'm a CPA and I use TurboTax to do my own personal return and some family members. It's quick, easy, very user friendly and accurate as well. The $20 basic package is suitable for most people and great way to go for someone who isn't afraid of doing their own taxes, it really is something you could do yourself and save money if you are willing to do it. Takes me less than an hour to install it and finish my return. I don't think it would take the average individual more than a couple to a few hours if they know how to turn on a computer and have their paperwork in order and ready to go. It works for even the more complicated returns but if you're running a business or unsure of certain special tax situations or need tax planning advice, I would always recommend you seek out a respectable fellow CPA, we're worth every penny you give us.

I've been using for six years and like it. Had a CPA do mine one year and did it myself with turbotax to check and it came out exactly the same.

Ditto. I've done this test as well in the past comparing returns prepared by other CPAs. Actually in a couple cases Turbotax found things the other CPAs missed.

Been using TurboTax for 6+ years... Pretty easy...

My only complaint; The program you get on the CD needs to be "updated" (understandable), but TrboTax's damn updating must bring in EVERY update (whether I need it ofr not). I only complain because I have "dial-up" internet access and it take like 45 minutes to download everything...

Last year I asked for the updates on a CD, mailed to my home, but they didn't arrive until mid-march or so (by then I had already downloaded the updates and completed my return)...

I already bought TT2007, and have put in alot of stuff... Just waiting for the 1099's and W2's to adjust everything...

I bought the program for a number of years, probably 5 or 6 but the last 3 years I did my taxes with them online - http://www.turbotax.com . There's still a (tax deductible) filing fee but at least I didn't have to install any software. They also keep prior year's returns online in .PDF format you can download if you need 'em. :)

Probably have a CPA do it this year due to my retiring last year and may have some more complicated tax issues than I care to mess with. May do it online again just to compare.

I've used the Turbo Tax online version for the past 2 years. I used their software package years ago, stopped and went to a cpa when my money issues got complicated. Stayed with the cpa untill his prices went up beyond my means. Did the online for free (pay at the end) and saw it was as good as what I was getting from the CPA and went ahead and paid... It was easier than dealing with software and well worth it...
