Hello
I have a problem with my 67 chevelle..
I have swapped in a 1970 454 mark IV engine, but i can not find a oil pan that fits in this car.. I have bought a Canton racing oil pan but it does not fit in the frame.. Have i the wrong engine mounts/brackets?
I have the original small block brackets.. I have to lift the engine higher up, what shall i do??

I know that on the 1970 Chevelles ( as well as some other years too) there's no such thing as big block and small block motor mounts. there are only two types, and one is only for the 307 motor, and the other is for all the other motors. But I guarantee that your problem is with that Canton Racing oil pan. I suggest that you stay away from using their oil pans. I just had a two month long wrestling match with my Canton oil pan in my big block. They told me on the telephone as well as it saying on their website that the oil pan that I had would fit OE frames without modifications needed. but they were just plain wrong about that.

I ended up yanking the thing off the motor, and buying a Milodon pan that worked a whole lot better. Canton racing is a joke when it comes to their oil pans!!!! Can you say incompetence????

I run a BB in my 67 with SB frame stands and SB engine mounts.

In 66-67 SB and BB Chevelle's used different stands, the difference being BB stands have an indentation for the BB motor mount safety interlock feature. The indentation is the only difference otherwise they are dimensionally the same.

The SB stand doesn't have the indentation so a BB motor mount will NOT fit a SB frame stand because the interlock feature will interfere. After market stuff could be different.

As long as you're using mounts that match your frame stand it should fit.

If you're looking for a stock capacity pan, I've used Summit's BB $29 pan without problems.

Thanks for the clarification on the motor mounts. I wasn't sure about the 67 Chevelles.

Whatever you do dont use stock motor mounts with the rubber insulators.
I ran mine and the motor sagged and the panned touched the crossmember and rubbed a tiny hole on the bottom of dimple by the pan. There is not much clearance between pan and crossmember. I ended up using energy suspension motor mounts from Auto Zone. They actually lifted the motor up a 1/4 inch from before with the stock mounts. If you got a high torque motor you might want to consider solid mounts. I used a stock oil pan on mine since 66-67 have the stout crossmember not too many will fit them.

I just dropped a 454 in my 67 frame. Used a Summit oil pan, no problems, lots of clearance. BTW - engine came out of a 74 Monte and Summit pan pan was an EXACT duplicate.

I used Energy Suspension motor mounts on SB frame horns. The ES mounts are for a "Chevy V8". The only clearance issues was with the 1 5/8 primary Heddman Elite headers on the LCA ears touching the header on each side. A little clearancing and then that was fine also. Heddman told me I wouldhave that problem if I didn't use factory mounts. I don't think using factory mounts would have been any different but it wasn't a surprise or major problem.
