I run a 3:31 12 bolt in my 66-396 with a Turbo 350. I thinks it's the best of both worlds for my driving needs. At 50 MPH around town --2000 RPM. At 60--2400. At 75--2900 RPM. It's quick off the line for a heavy convertible but then again will cruise at 80 with the engine rpm not driving me crazy.

I'm running 3:73 with a 4 speed. I think it is to low geared but I do alot of highway driving to get to the cruises.

I had 373's with a th350. about 60-70 was 3000-3300 rpm. A little fast for my liking but it was a small block. If I had a big block I would be pissed at that rpm, just wasting gas. Now I have overdrive!

I used to run 4.11 behind TH-350. Everyone thought I was crazy, one guy even thought my tranny was not shifting into 3rd. I must say 4.11s are awsome until your just crusing along trying to get somewhere. Then it is a slap in the face. Now I have to either get overdrive or change gears since it is my daily driver in the summer. I know 4.11s aren't the same as 3.73 but I'd say go for 3.55 if you plan to drive it a lot on the street.

I have a 4.10 posi with 28 inch tall tires which gives me the same ratio as a 3.73 with 26 inch tires. I have a 2200 stall converter and a 388 stroker. It tough not to smoke the tires. But is this not the reason we are all using this web site? Old American muscle?

I will be able to tell you in the spring, just went from a 4:56 to a 3:73 so anything streetable will be an improvement. trying to get the best out of both worlds. Calculations state 2700 rpm @ 60mph with 28 inch tires:beers:

At first the 3.73s seemed like too much(original 2.56),then I got used to it,then a cam upgrade made it even better.Switched to 4.56s(I change rears every so often,3.73-4.56)and the 3.73 seem like overdrive compared to them.Probably ought to ride with someone that has a set. They're too much for some, not enough for others.

We've run 3.73's in all five of our V8 powered S10's. They are a little hard on gas for a long trip. We got about 16 mpg doing 65 mph from Binghamton, NY to Carlisle, Pa and back. The engine is a pretty much bone stock 350 SBC with a Edelbrock Performer cam and carb, dual 2 1/4" exhaust, TH350 with a 2800 stall converter, and rear tires are BFG 235/70/15's (so they're a little taller which helps keep the rpms down a little=better gas milage)

I'm running BFG 255/70/15 and would even like to go bigger on the rear.
So that should help keep the RPM down a bit. I plan on putting a gear vendors
OD on this summer so that should even things out.
