Got that end nailed down, now to find a cooler ...

Image

This one looks like it'll work. got a nice spot under the radiator to mount it ..
Be in the air flow without adding additional heat to the radiator ..
Not to that point of doing just yet, may mount it between the radiator and motor .. The radiator's electric fan would be blowing hot air on it ..

Image

We'll see how that goes down ??

I have a stack plate cooler just like that one, I pulled out of a 2000’s Trailblazer with a tow package that was in a Pick & Pull JY, I’m using for a trans cooler after I flushed, it’s mounted in front of my alum radiator

Looks to be well made ..

I might be overkilling this ..
Did install a Mercruiser oil pan from a boat motor, holds 2 qts more oil than a stock pan plus using a truck oil filter that adds 2 more qts to the capacity ... 8 qts in total .. With the cooler & lines in play be around 9+ qts ..

Being aluminum it should shed some heat ...

Most likely installing a oil cooler is overkill, but probably a good place for some overkill ??

Food for thought ....
The GM motor oil cooler adapters have a built-in thermostat. These thermostats regulate oil temperature by either bypassing the cooler until a certain temperature is reached or by limiting oil flow to the cooler at lower temperatures. This helps prevent the oil from getting too cold during startup and cold weather, as well as protecting the engine from overheating.

  • Thermostat Operation:
The thermostat acts as a valve that controls the flow of oil to the cooler. At lower temperatures, the valve is partially or fully closed, allowing oil to bypass the cooler and enter the engine more quickly. As the oil warms up, the valve gradually opens, allowing more oil to flow through the cooler.

So even if the Stat fails engine still gets oil circulation 👍

Newish brain teaser ...

Will be installing a oil temperature gauge just to keep a eye on how hot the oil is getting ..

These photos are the factory GM cooler adapter ..
The thought is to drill & thread a hole in the critter for the sending unit ..
I have ordered a small compact gauge to be mounted inside the glovebox ... Keeping the dashboard clean of add-ons ..

Needing to find a spot for the probe ...

Say, if anybody would like to have this groovy tool in their tool box, it's for sale .
Would love to keep it for future jobs, but I'm needing money to buy a honing torque plate .. That puppy ain't cheap by no means !!

Motor work is on hold for awhile .
Still in the save up mode for the plate ..

Meanwhile :
Did do a bit of body work on the dashboard .
Years back I painted it the oem IH almond color .. Still was looking pretty good ..

But had a world of holes drilled under it for add on goodies ..
My truck is at the bottom of International's truck line for 1954 .. (R-100)
When I installed the, cut down to fit, Cadillac column seen a problem with the stock dashboard . It was notched for the three on the tree gearshift ..
With the Caddy column in play that notch was no longer needed ..

Was going to fill it in, but a trip to the boneyard netted a better fix ..
Found a dash from a R-190 over the road Heavy-Duty truck ..
Cabs was basically the same as the light-duty trucks, it didn't have the notch plus it had holes for a tach & air-brakes gauges ..
Put them to use with using a VDO tach and a vacuum gauge from a early 60's Pontiac ..

Spent some time getting all the holes welded up and preparing it for a new to me paint job ..

Image

This is how it will look when finished ..

The column was a PITA to do ..
Retained the column shift, worked fine with the THM 400 trans, not so with the newly installed 4L85E ..
Low gear wasn't about to engage using the squeeze column shifter, didn't have enough throw being it was made for a three speed tranny ..

Gutted it down to skin & bone in order to modify the two stops ..
As long as I was in the belly of the beast I got the key buzzer working ..
Did a custom key chime, can download any tune or message has a 30 second play time then loops ..

Image

At the moment I have 'Tubular Bells' in it ...

Once I get tired of hearing it might write over that program with this ...
