I can't seem to ID what the wires are coming out of my distributor, appears to be an Accel 30100 and two wires coming out the side, picture below, one to the tach and one to the coil right? Anyone know which is which? every diagram has 3 wires to a plug, or different colors....

Got a handy wiring diagram for the car and I see there's supposed to be a return wire from the starter to the coil, but there wasn't one from PO and seemed to run fine... what am I risking by not adding that in?

That is a dual point distributor, take the cap and rotor off and post some pictures. You need to find the installation instructions for it.

Normally the 2 points are jumpered together in the distributor and only 1 wire exits and connects to the coil -. The tach also connects to the coil -. It looks like you have a separate wire on each set of points. Connect either one or both to the coil -. The starter R terminal connects to the coil + with a yellow wire. This bypasses the resistance wire providing 12v while starting instead of the normal lower voltage while running. It just helps get it started.

Accel dual points came from the factory with 2 wires for a reason. When setting the dwell with the car running you disconnected the one wire with the bullet connection on it. Then you adjusted the one set of points that is connected to the desired reading on your dwell meter, then you reconnected the other wire and adjusted the second set of points to get the total dwell setting. We used to set them to 26 degrees on the first one and 36 total with the wire reconnected by adjusting the second set of points. But man that was a long time ago.
