Has anyone here built any fast pump gas small blocks running tall street gears like 3.55-3.73 with 275/28” tire in an average weight muscle car around 3600 lbs running in the 10 second range ?

I would love to hear what you have done and how it worked out for you as I’m looking for some ideas on a good combo for my next build. I’m currently running a very old (early 2000) stock block iron headed 434 I built and it’s getting tired after years of service. I had my mind on maybe going with a 3.75” stroke this time

I would think your going to need that 434. Get a good solid roller with 11 to 1 compression and the best heads and you might get a 10.99 run. Good converter and chassis are a must though.

We did run 10.7s with a 3.73 gear 406 in a 71 Camaro, power steering, turning fan, turning the alternator, drag radial, but it only weighed 3300 pounds, but that was a long time ago. But it was a very mild engine. And it was always driven to the track.

Did you ever drag test the 580hp 406 you used to offer? That was quite an appealing combo from memory!

My car meets those requirements and runs quicker than 10's. It's a 427SBC with a Procharger, Holley Dominator EFI and a flex fuel sensor so it can run pump gas and/or E85 and has a 3.50 gear with 30" tires and weighs 3,700. Soon it will be running on E85/91 octane for driving and methanol when under boost.

My son went a 10.90@123.8 on shell super.
All steel all engine driven accessories FULL exhaust full interior.
10.5:1 406.
Oh yeah with 3.42 gears!
3585lbs with him in it.
79 Malibu.

My 69 is good for low 11s w/o the nitrous. It's 4150lbs (w/ me in it). 427 sbc, Dart LilM, 210 AFRs, 11:1 CR, 248/254 HR (CC 3318/3319 lobes on a 112 lsa), full manual TH400, 3.55 12 bolt, 275/60 15s. I hit a 10.9 once when the weather was just right and I used the TB for launch. The car has AC, power windows/locks, and probably too many other creature comforts.

My Vortec 406 will run on pump gas and sports 4.10 gears but with the 30" tires it's like having 3.73's in the car, weights around 3450. I ran 10.90's with it. Mild (well what I would call mild) combo and not much money into it either.

Your combination is really nice. No doubt about it! Did you ever run it n/a before adding that procharger to the mix ?

your combo should easily run 10’s at my weight. What transmission and converter are you running? And what was the mph in your 10.9x run?

I have followed along your progress with the Vortec 406 and i have to say it’s very impressive! Do you have any future plans for it?

that sounds great. Great mph for that et so it has some good power! Do you have more information about that combo?

TH400 full manual with a Hipster transbrake and PTC 3600 converter. I'm typically 118-119 but the 10.9 run was just under 118 (at an NMCA race tnt and the track was hooking real good).

What trans & converter? (sorry if I missed it in a previous post)

Thanks. Yes I ran it at the track 10 years ago when it had an old set of AFR 210 heads that I purchased in 2000. It ran 10.41 at 128. I put it on a chassis dyno shortly after that and picked up another 40+ RWHP so it probably would have run 10.20's.
