Well, it's definitely a Feb 4, 1966 396 block but that stamping SSA 982 x does not cross to anything I can find. A picture would help!

could that be a re-builder's code?
Here is a picture of the casting number as well as two Z16 Chevelle's and a L89 Corvette that I restored a few years back for a customer of mine. So the interesting part of this block is that my customers best friend owned all three cars and not until he passed away that my customer purchased all three cars from the widow as well as numerous collection of NOS parts. The original owner started to restore his chevelles but unfortunately had passed and his best friend (my customer) wanted to finish that for the widow With that being said in a nutshell I'm curious as to why he had this particular block amongst all the Original and NOS part that followed along with the cars. Maybe it's something rare or odd ball?
